Has anyone bought Hewitt Gauges and installed them? I like 'em right up there with Diprocol but just haven't heard anything of them...

Got them still sitting on my desk still because I'm slowly compiling all the associated hardware to install them. I got the boost gauge (0-50), EGT and fuel pressure (0-30) with isolator. One thing I'm a little concerned about is the Hewitt thermocouple is big, as in 1/2" NPT hole required in the manifold. The t/c tip will end up sticking into the manifold quite a ways, and it may be slow to react being so big.

Let me know if you want any more specific info.

I like 'em

I saw these at Scotty's Calgary Diesel Stampede in July and loved 'em! They look quality and I like the fact the needle is CLOSE to the surface of the gauge dial, instead of far above it like everyone else's gauges. Also, you can select from FOUR different bezel options #ad

They have a 50-psi boost like rspinks mentioned, plus they will soon have an EGT gauge that matches the rest of the gauges and doesn't have the d'arsenval (sp?) movement, ie, no tab coming from the edge of the gauge and covering the middle (I've NEVER liked those!!)

I bought a Hewitt Pyro back in '78 and still works good! Naturally they've changed the style since then, but this one looks good too! Back then I bought it & picked it up right at their plant, do you have a source for them ? :)

Have the Hewitt gauges installed on my truck. The pyro is very responsive!! Nail it on 5X5 with the DD111's and watch it fly:--) I also have the 50 psi boost gage and isolated fuel pressure gauge. If you get the isolator for the fuel pressure gage, I would replace the snap lock fitting with a compression fitting to avoid wearing the glycol... ... . I speak from experience. Snap locks don't belong in the tight confines of an A-pillar pod! Got them from Wildcat Diesel.

Hey welcome back Alex, hope you had a good trip. Did you get the same Hewitt therrmocouple with the 1/2" NPT connection? Thanks for the tip on the barb fitting, I didn't like the looks of it much anyways. Also what fittings/fuel line did you use for the hose to the isolator?

I got mine! Installed them two nights ago.

Correction on the thread size--it's 1/4 NPT not 1/2. Yes, it's a 7/16 hole so it is nearly 1/2" measured, but that's not what it's called.

And with stock fuel I can make the PYRO fly -up to 900 then it will go to 1000-1050 if I stay on it hard.

Boost goes to 23-4 but doesn't go to zero. It bottoms on the 2# hash.

Working on the Westach FP intallation now.

Oops, I may need some learnin' on NPT sizes. I guess 1/4NPT is based 1/4" pipe ID so the OD is closer to 1/2". Hopefully it will look a little smaller when I get home today :).

Hey Rich,

I let Piers put the FP gauge in while I was floating around the georgia straight in a boat for a week. They just used some rubber fuel line to the isolator off a tapped banjo bolt. My complaint, gauge shows 12 psi at idle pre filter. A mechanical gauge at the VP shows 15 psi at idle which is post filter obviously:confused: I am thinking the isolator is suspect but will have to examine this more closely if I ever have some time to poke around under there one of these days.

I bought mine direct from hewitt and the guy said he would do a GP last year but I could not get any takers when I posted. Try them directly;)

Alex sorry I couldn't get back yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to get a PM from Hewitt directly regarding t/c size, reaction time, etc. I will PM you his number and email address.
