Competition Pulling gears with 3.73's and 6 speed

I missed your call last night. We were invited down to a local sled pull and a few of the trucks decided to do it. One of the trucks was a 6 speed with 4. 10's on worn mud tires and we were trying to figure out what gear to pull. I'm a drag racer so I was of no help as usual. He ended up pulling 3rd/low and I think he could have done 4th/low. It wasn't too bad though. That guy (Charlie) came in 2nd at 248' 11", Rick Wallace took first with 251' on street tires and the other truck took 3rd on a slipping clutch at I believe 241'

Rick's run was awesome to watch. 4k rpm launch + 700hp = one cool pull. :D One of the "gasser" guys was heard saying, "there ain't no way that thing was running diesel" :-laf

And I'm the fellow that chickened out . I didn't pull. At 299K miles I'm just a little afraid of tearing it up. Maybe a little unfounded, but no $ for repair right now. But now that it's over, I know I could have pull 290. I just know I could .

How well did Rick's clutch hold during the pull?

Mark, It did pretty well I guess. We were all worried about it but Rick took it easy all the way there (rare for Rick) as he was trying to keep it in as best condition as he could before he hooked. I think if he had been running a more aggressive tire we may have seen some slipping but instead it was just wheel speed.

One thing I like about Rick, he has no fear. If it breaks, it breaks. But if it breaks, it's because he was WFO.

So Gene - what gear should you pull in with 4:10's and a 6 speed?
