Come on Jay, what are the numbers like? with a set up like that you must have done a Dyno run by now!Oo.

Whats the boost numbers and when did you put that sweet thing in?

I was just going to post a question to see if anyone has done this yet. Looks like my question has been answered:D . I know a lot of 2nd gen trucks are running twins. It's nice to see that it is possible for us as well. SO HOWS IT RUN:D

Keep BOMBing,

Kurt.

Stan- no numbers yet. I fired it up for the first time today. Big turbos new and needs some break-in time so I can't get after it. I've been picking at this for the last 4 months or so. I'm not after monster HP, this is more of an experiment in drivability. Quick spool, good top end, low EGTs, low smoke. What I can tell you with the few miles I have on it so far is my smoke durring acceleration is almost gone, EGTs are down a little and it cools off much faster than the HX35/16cm. Currently my pump is still at the stock settings. Now whats really cool is hearing that big turbo spool up. Lots of tuning ahead!

83 crew cab- It may look like there is lots of room but everything barely fits. You'll notice the washer fluid tank and the insulated rubber cover for the heater fan are missing. The exhaust just squeaks through.

Jay

Nice set up. Keep us posted on how it performs. Looks can be deceiving. The picture makes it looks like there is all kinds of room. Still can't be as bad as the twins I've seen in the 2nd gen trucks. #@$%!

So what ya gonna do with your HX35? ;)

Carl;

Now ya gone and dun it. . . whats the cost? I think I found out what wifey can get me for Christmas. Cept she wants 4 new flaired metal corners on her 75 914-6 2. 7ltr conversion Porsche. Not a chance. I won't run against her, she and the vehicle don't hardly weigh as much as a Cummins diesel engine. When I was lots younger I drove it 150 MPH once in my foolish youth. There's faster cars, but none is more fun.

Cheers

Carl- Well ya there is lots of room around the top and front it's just down at the bottom where the big turbo sits that things get tight. At least I was able to keep the heat exchanger.

83 crew cab- the top charger is an HY35/9cm

OTRPU- I added it up tonight. I have about $1800 tied up in just parts. I made all the adapters and piping myself. Aint cheap!

BTW What's a 6. 2ltr conversion on a 914? Sounds like a lot of motor for an oversized lawnmower. ;)

Jay

ok that explanes why it looked so small lol how is your egt we found out going from the 16 to 18 housing on the top charger we lost 200 degrees egt but thats with a 40 on top

Jay,

I know what you mean about getting a few miles on the new turbos. When I put in the PDR HX-35, Piers said to get a couple hundred miles on it before seeing what it would do. He**, I couldn't wait to see what it would do so I got the wife and said"lets go for a ride"! Got the mileage on it that same day and was able to try it out. There was a huge difference in the response time with that and I can just imagine what your set up will be like.

Carl, look out! here is another thing to spend money on! :D

83 crew cab- is your little red express completed? Didn't see any completed pics on your web page. Nice paint job on your crew cab! You running an external gate on your 40 or just the stock WG?

As far as EGTs go I'm still at the stock fuel settings on the pump. Only change to the fuel system at the moment is the PODs. I don't have near enough fuel at the moment to get the second charger spooling well. With a stock HX35 and the same fuel settings I maxed out at 26psi and 1050 egt. With the twins and the same fuel setting I can run it up to 36psi and 1100 egts. The psi is still building but I have to get out of it because of traffic. I have the Turbo-Master set at 20psi, the big charger doesn't really wake up until I hit 30psi so there is this awkward flat spot from 20 to 30 psi. It's going to take some time and tuning to figure this out.

Jay,

Fantastic work!! Looks better than store bought!

My eyes aren't what they used to be... is that downpipe square tubing, or is it time for my cornea replacement already?

I'd love to see a couple of different angles on that rig.

jbolt it should be done in the next coulpe of weeks. the motor has about 20 hours on an eng dyno though (607hp 65psi of boost and 1250 egt)

we tried it it with both style wastgates and seen no real advantage to the external so we went back to the stock wastgate with the housing drilled to dump both sides of the manifold

thanks the crewcab is a 20foot paint job as long as your 20 foot away it looks good lol

Ok, you guys have let jbolt stay quiet long enough... . how bout an update on the twins/performance/issues/overlooked stuff etc...

Pastor bob.

JBOLT!!!!!!!!!!

I am with Bushwakr how does that thing perform. I look at it and am totaly amazed. From what it sounds like he gets that big rig turbo spool up sound the ones you can hear going down the freeway at 70. When they just lay on it. LOVE that soundOo.

Diggin it!

Looks sweet Jay, it must sound bada**. Is there another sopport bracket I'm not seeing? Just looks like a lot of weight to be hanging off the exh. manifold.
