Mark,

In one of your posts you mentioned that it was possible to change the relatively flat 'curve' of the VE pump to one with a nice/larger torgue curve with some mods.

Can you provide some insight into this? What needs to be done/ How etc?

PM me if you prefer. I'm interested in your views on this.

Thanks in advance...

Bob.

I would also like to hear your views on this particular subject. I have an idea on how to increase the torque curve, but it requires taking the pump apart.

I would appreciate it if you would also share your view with me too.

Thanks

When you assemble the pump, there's several dimensions set in the governor mechanism. There's buttons of different sizes, and stops and spring presets.

At the very front of the pump, at the mounting flange, is a nut with apparently a headless bolt inside that will take an allen wrench. Between adjusting that and some of the inside dimensions, you can change the torque curve - oh, yeah, and the spring you use will influence it, as well.

I have seen it done, though I never got the chance to experiment myself. Any good VE technician can do it and make it work on the test stand.

I once saw a VE assembled with an incorrect housing and run on the test stand. The fuel output tripled between full load and max output :--)

Of course, it wasn't what the technician wanted and it took him quite some time to find the error.

This was him looking in the mirror that day: :-{}

Someone once told me that the nut with the headless bolt near the mounting flange will increase pressure inside the pump. Is this close to being true and if it isnt, what does it do?

oh, yeah, and the spring you use will influence it, as well.

Are you referring to the governor spring or the torque control spring located in the governor assembly? maybe both??

cody

I don't know what THEY were talking about, but the governor shaft that runs through the pump is parallel to the drive shaft.

And no, it has no effect on pressures.

And yeah, I meant the governor spring and other governor parts inside.

Don't ask which parts to do what, I don't know. But I know someone who can eventually figure it out for me :)

Of course, there might be other guys on TDR who have done it... perhaps Piers or others...
