This came in to the shop this morning and we just swarmed all over it. The craftsmanship is incredible.

Some fussy people built this thing years ago.

8V92TA 475 Horse Detroit Diesel.....this would account for the lettering on the rear "This too shall pass" , and I bet it does....

A few photos...it is immaculate inside as well, I took my shoes off before stepping on the forward carpet. It's that clean. This has got to be 20 + years old??

Well, I just checked out the Newall website.....the new ones are a million to a million five from what I saw quickly. So they are a Wanderlodge / Prevost category of quality. EDIT....more like a million nine now that I look closer for new....

The current owner bought this one 6 years ago for $40,000.00. He and his wife simply love it.

I see it. Some kind of fire suppression system for sure.

Along the lines of what the woods equipment uses up here.

Now that I think about it....I'm sure it is plumbed into the bottle that is right next to it. At first I thought that was a typical fire extinguisher (silly location after further thought!) and that they must have plumbed that sprinkler head into the water system.....which seems odd.

Now I feel dumb for thinking that. :)

Man, not only are those luxury coaches, they look to be designed by someone who's actually USED them before.

Some pretty well thought-out arrangements there.

Life goals...someday.

Just incredible. I thought Prevost was the King until I stumbled onto this Newell brand.

I'm going to study their website in depth tonight.

This old one that is in our shop just brought anyone that knows anything at all about Motorhomes right to it like it was a big magnet. I can't convey just how well it is built and holding up for it's age.

Just came out of the shop. It is a 1984.

Tech unleashed the 8V92 for a quick minute, takes off like a scalded dog.

My first "real" driving job was at D/FW airport driving busses for one of the major airlines. In their old fleet they had two '78 model GMC 40' coaches with the 8V92 in them (the rest of the fleet was 35 footers with the 6V92s). I would always try to draw the 40' rigs...that 8V92 was incredible to drive...the 40' was considerably heavier than the 35' coach, and even given the crappy fuel (we ran 'em on Jet-A, the same stuff they filled aircraft with), those 8V92's would run circles around the smaller coaches, and maintain even under load.

I know the Detroit V-series has a bad rep, and mechanically I understand why they're deprecated by today's standards, but man, those 8V92's would make you a believer.

I like the idea that they use "Corian countertops" in the bathroom... Only issue is they spelled Korean WONG lol!! I have one that's made in China that I bought at Home Depot for cheap!!

Mike, if you sell the house and all your toy's you might be able to swing the deal to buy one! LOL.

I drove a Titan 90 Chevy in the late 70's with the 350 HP 8V71. 350 Cummins walked all over it. It was noisy, a fuel hog, dirty and used oil. 13 speed Roadranger was fun. The 92 series had better power, but the other negative attributes were similar. SNOKING

MWilson,

I just saw this post. Yes, that sure looks like something, both the one in the shop as well as the other one.

Now, I am not as learned in these issues as you are, but I think I recall you saying to avoid that 8V92 above all else. That stuck in my mind because I have seen some older Foretravel and Bluebird WanderLodge during my web searches that seem amazing - right in there with Prevost and Newell.

The only way I could afford one would be to have an older one. But, if like the one in the shop then that would be great.

Hi Russell!!!

Yes, I admit to dissing the 8V92 in past discussions but I would probably take the chance in the case of a Newell Motor Home. But again, I have the tools and resources to keep one running.

That 1984 Newell is built like a tank. No loose anything on it that we could find. We even tried to find loose rivets on the skin.

I would assume that sometime in the late '80s that they would have switched to either 60 Series Detroit or Cat 3406 power which be a little more common as far as repairs. They are on my radar now for sure.

When you get a few free minutes peruse the Newall website. The innovations for modern motor homes seem to have started with Newell.

The rear bathroom just fascinates me for some reason. Don't recall seeing that on any other coach so far.
