I am new to both diesel trucks and the TDR. I do have some questions though. I am trying to put in an overhead console computer into my new 2002 ram 2500 i have the overhead wiring harness as i got it with the console. my question is will my truck with basically no power anything have the proper plugs and stuff under the hood and in the cab to plug in the harness out of the other truck and not have to buy new wiring harnesses for under the hood and in the cab. I also wanted to know if i do have to get the other wiring harnesses where to locate them. i have been checking ebay for just in case but havn't seen any. Also, i was wondering about the silver star lights opposed to the sport conversion that seems to be popular, would i be better off getting the silverstar headights or the full conversion harness and housings for the sport headlights.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Hey Kevin, First welcome to TDR and congrats on your taste in vehicles. I'm not an expert on this subject, but can only assume that Chrysler, for monetary reasons, wouldn't put different harnesses in the trucks. Mine is older and a stripped model but it has numerous blocked off plugs both under the dash and under the hood. If the harness your referring to is stock I'd bet there's a plug under the dash for it. Hope this is of some help, See ya, Greg

hey KISSFAN113,

if your refering to the trip computer that comes on the slt trucks with the compass and fuel milage on it then it will not work. Your truck does not have the sensors installed in it to tell the computer what it needs to know. And I highly doubt that the wiring harness it the same there as well. I have had 6 different chrysler vehicles and twins of 2 of them and they had different harnesses for the different options the vehicles have. I tried to do the same thing in my sebring convertible but the harnesses where 100% different.

WELCOME! You will be overwhelmed with great information by GREAT guys/girls here at TDR!! check out the "Local and Regional Events" section for "meet & Greets"!!!

madmax is right, I did a SLT to SPORT conversion on my 01 and I DIDNT have foglights well the SPORT came with foglights in the bumper and I thought the plugged off sensor just below the radiator was for fog lights... . nope so I went to the dealer and picked up a fog-light kit for my truck... 114 dollars later it came with EVERTYTHING switch, wiring, gray inserts (slt) foglights... a hour later I had lights!. The headlights are another trip as well. IMO (in my opinion) Id just stay with the stock lights and not mess with the new wiring harness and what not Its tough enough to get your hands back behind to reach the bulbs! If you decide to get rid of the console I put switches in my spot for future add-ons

Under "My RIG" and down twors the bottom is a pic of the switches as well as the SLT/SPORT swap and there are pics in my Readers Rigs gallery under my name.

it is more that in want to add a computer console than delete one. I don't currently have any overhead console. I bought a computer console and overhead harness with cab light wires before joining the forum. I really want this option, i have several plugged off plugs on my truck i am hoping go to sensors for said conversion. Thanks for the info on the lights, sounds like more of a pain than i really want to fool with plus it is extra cost.
