I go to tools/internet options/general and home page I'll set one but- and I use the Apply and OK at the end - all is well till I load the peogram again - the other page shows up... ... ... . this is the address that shows up ( i took away the usual http:// (there isn't a www with it) - don't run it.....

office. microsoft.com/en-us/default. aspx

HOWEVER this shows up as about:blank in the address

More than likely, your register has been modified by a script at a web site. You want to do a system restore (assuming you have XP).

Start from a desk top screen with nothing running. Go to the "START" button, up to 'programs', then 'accessories', then 'system tools', then to 'system restore'. Double-click this. A screen pops up and it's self promting from there. Just pick a restore date previous to when this all started happening, and your registry will be restored to that date. Your problem should go away. Hope this helps you.

Havr spybot running as well - no luck

And the system restore - doesn't work - I try to pick a bold date and when it gets done running - the system tells me there were no changes so pick another date... .....

If ad-aware or spybot don't fix the problem try "hijack this" it will scan your registry and tell you what it finds, but it is up to you as to what needs removing so be careful because you can really mess up your puter if you start deleting things from your registry.

Xoftspy has software included that will remove what you describe - your problem is caused by a program that attaches to the registry in Windows, and keeps forcing your display back to whoever's page got attached like a leech to your system...

It pays to be aware of and remove those and similar 'Trojan Horses", SOME of them include a program that will dial some VERY expensive phone numbers in the backround that you aren't even aware of - until you get this huge phone bill... ;)
