Need a recessed class 4 hitch...

Well I finally got around to installing the prodigy in the astray oping. I wanted to mount it so that I could close the ashtray and not see the brakecontroller. Almost done with the installation only thing is I broke the ashtray trying to put it back in the slot. It was dark and I couldn't see the tabs. Has anyone been able to do this mount set up and not have to remove material from the indentation were your fingers would go when you pull the ashtray down? Tomorrow I'm on a search for a gray ashtray for a 98 and up 2nd gen. Ill let you know how it turns out.

Dealer ordered new ashtray today will be in tomorrow. Had brainstorm today I'm going to try and heat the indentation up and bend it away from the controller. If any one is interested I will take some pictures of how I installed the controller

I will be installing a new brake next spring and have thought of the ashtray since neither of us smoke. I would be interested in your experiences and pictures.

I mounted my Prodigy in the ashtray hole after removing it. It's handy to grab the panic button there. Gotta bean bag ashtray for the dash.

Cheers,

Steve J.

Any Pics??

I have a prodigy in my old truck and it I ever get this Dodge going I want to put it in the ashtray. I can't decide to take the ashtray off or have it to where it is ready to use when open??

I'll be getting a Prodigy next spring. I was planning to make a bracket that utilized the ashtray. I'm excited to hear it might fit "inside".

I'm really interested in pictures, when you get it done. Thanks!

I looked into this for the Edge comp its about 1/16" to wide I was going to heat up the ash tray and widen it a little  ran out of time ( patients )

I have the Prodigy controller and was going to put it in the ashtray but I could not figure how to get the wires up to it. I even went to the dealer and they could not get the 03' ashtray out without fear of breaking the thing. The dealer tech told me to remove this screw and that screw, well by time I had most of the dash removed I got scared (I had yet to get the wires up to the ashtray Floor, I removed the liner and drilled a hole int the ashtray floor), so I put it all back together. No squeaks BTW.

So plan 'B' I cut a 2x4 to fit in the ashtray and painted it black and I Velcro the controller to that. The controller is totally level and is easy to access. Since I only tow utility trailers once in a while it works for me and the wires just run along the plastic near my right knee.

I would post a picture but the picture is to many pixels, or jpegs or what ever they are called and I don't know how to reduce the size.
