installed a set of auxiliary lights in new front bumper. i have a wireharness with relay and switch. i do not want to use the on off switch , i just want to tap into the wire for the factory high beams. that way they will come on evertime the high beams are on and still be legal. does anybody know the color of the wire that i need to tap into from the oem high beams?

I presume an 04.

The left high is white w/ a light green tracer.

The right high is white w/ a gray tracer.

It all comes off the integrated power module which may have some power limitations. If you drive a pilot relay you should be ok, but there are two seperate outputs, one for each lamp. They are a function of multiple inputs, and I wouldn't screw with those. There might be an output current sensor, so I'd run pilot relays as small as possible that could still handle your bulbs.

I went and pulled the left front headlight assembly, then pulled power off the high beams to power my switch to my KC Daylighters. (if you check for high beam power with a test light while it's not plug in, the current will pulse, however when the plug is plugged into the headlight, you have full power!) I also pulled power of the running lights there to power the switch for my PIAA 51 Bright White Driving lights. In both cases, it worked great!

For those of you who don't know. You can remove the headlight assemble very easily. Open hood, remove the push pin attaching the seal to the fender, then remove 3 bolts, 2 bolts are on the assembly next to the intercooler and the last bolt is under the turn signal/running light. Then pull straight out and you have full access to the headlight and turn/runnings lights.

You can not tap into a headlight wire under the dash, I tried them all, they seem to be low voltage. So don't waste your time there.

? for you guys running the aftermarket front bumpers. Is the paint holding up to rock chips and wheather? thanks, Doc

Doc,

So far, so good. Mine has been powdercoated. However, white is one of the worst for taking and showing abuse. On my last truck, The White Obsession, I had the bumper on for 2 years and had some small chips. I expect to have to re-powdercoat the bumper on the Ghost Rider every 3 to 4 years.

You can download the wiring diagrams for the 04 from http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/ They might be close enough to the 03 to help.

Mine is an 04. I have downloaded "Bodybuilder" so I knew the colors of the wires. Being uneducated in electronics, I was just unaware of the low-voltage inside the cab. On my 99, I was able to pull power for high beams from the wires coming down the steering column. You can't on 3 Gens.
