Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Not enough Boost

Hi All,

I noticed the other day that when I nailed it to the floor pulling out into traffic, that I was pulling 23 lbs. of boost. It was very easy under acceleration to pull 22-23lbs. No check engine light but when I checked for codes it had one for Over Boost condition. What would cause a stock '99 truck with stock elbow to do this? The truck also has felt under powered lately when accelerating out into traffic... . feels like it can't get out of its own way:mad: Any connection to the high boost? Is the turbo/waste-gate covered under the 100,000 mile engine warranty?

If your setting an overboost code then the truck is probably going into limp mode. When I went into limp mode the truck would not get out of its own way. . Sounds like your wastegate is not working correctly or at all.

I don't know if the waste gate is covered under the 100 K warranty, seems like it shoudl be as it is an emmisions item.

It's not going into Limp Mode... ... the truck just seems to be dragging on WOT. From what I have read... ... the truck sees an over boost condition and defuels, thus less power? Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in here.

I can't think of anything that causes an over boost except a malfunctioning wastegate. Is this serviceable or does the dealer simply replace the turbo?:{ Anyone????

Unless I'm wrong..... wouldn't a problem with the actuator hose cause a loss of boost. I will check it tonight. :)

Nope, if the hose is off, cracked or broken, the wastegate actuator won't see compressor discharge pressure and will never open the wastegate. Had this happen to me on my 1983 Volvo 245 Turbo many years ago. It would make boost like heck until the computer defueled it!

Hmm, I can hit 24 on the boost and mine doesn't defuel or anything. It just goes. No mods other than 4 inch DP and exhaust.

Should I be worried? I thought it was normal. I had no boost gauge before the 4 ".

Thanks
