Looking for some insight on boost levels. While towing I'm running in a consistent psi range of 25 to 28#. This is about the same if I'm in 5th or 6th gear at about 68mph/110kms. I've got the smarty jr. on towing setting and all default settings except the timing is up one notch. Timing doesn't change the boost in default either. My concern is, is this a safe boost level for the truck to run at constantly while towing?? Egt are in the 850 range, sensor in the manifold. If I use the edge juice instead, I'm at about 18# boost and 950-1000 degrees. I like the smarty for the lower egt's, but they seem to get this by the high boost levels compared to the Edge.

Any insight appreciated.

Hi,

I just got back from a camping trip with my 5er. I seem to remember that my boost pressure ran around 10 to 20 PSI with the Smarty J67 ME software set on CaTCHER 3. With all of the parameters set at default except TM which is set on level 2.

There has been a long discussion on the C&C model truck here recently by Wiredawg. I have attached his post and the threads attached to it. Ron does comment that he has been in contact with Gianfranco from MADS and I post his comments below for you to read. You can also read the entire 5 pages on this discussion if you so chose.

All,

Gianfranco from MADS replied to my email asking if the 6. 7L Cummins needs turbo wastegate or head studs. His response is "A Smarty S67 is safe on a stock truck up to CaTCHER level #5, above this an aftermarket clutch/ transmission is suggested. " My truck seems to bear this out since I've run it on SW#5 for over a year. He also said the stock truck will make 44 PSI boost. I replied to confirm becuse he had this wording: "ECM can boost fool up to 44 PSI. " I'n to sure if the word should be full or fooled... makes a big difference.
