I have been having this problem everytime after startup for the last month or so. After startup and when i am cruising to work the coolant temps will climb as usuall up to about 210 and then slowly creep back down to normal around 180 or so. Is this a bad thermostat or what? it is annoying and want some experienced input.

thanks for all the help. keep on smoking

Mine would do that routinely for the first t-stat opening of the day. The temp would run up to just past half and then drop back to its normal position and stay there. For any other start during the day, the temp would run up to normal and not beyond. I hadn't thought about it for a while, but your note made me realize that it doesn't do it anymore. I have replaced my t-stat within the past year, and it was an updated design. There might be something to that...
