Wher Do I Put A Fuel Gage

Obviously, with the 3 G engines when you add fuel you push EGT's up. I've heard that putting a larger turbo on to supply more air is the best solution short of backing out of the throttle.

Is this a good solution? How's got the best turbo for towing heavy loads, not racing, in mind?

I would look at the BD Super B turbo or give Piers diesel a call. I am real happy with my BD turbo, I think it is a good all around turbo, with a good price. It also comes with a good warranty. The EGT's with the BD turbo are low, run around 600-650 degrees while cruising, but I can get it to 1400+ real fast at WOT. She drops as fast as she raises as long as I get my foot out of it.

If you do go with a single turbo, you might seriously consider an ATS exhaust manifold, your going to be on that side of the engine, may as well get it over with.

Get rid of the stock muffler if you didn't already, drops EGT's approximately 200* in all conditions!! :D

I know the Exhaust system is a cheaper alternative, but is it as effective as a turbo?

On my second gen '99 I installed a 4" system and saw perhaps 50-100 F of EGT reduction. Does it hepl that much more on a 3G?

MMeier,

What temps do you see and what level do you run the EZ on? Do you run the boost elbow with the EZ???what boost levels do you see. . Trying to decide what to do, sell EZ or keep and buy gauges and change exhaust. I am pulling 40ft trailer now for snowmobile racing and don't want to blow engine or turbo. . Thanks

I am having the same problem with EGT's. I am not sure what to do. I want to change the exhaust but I don't want the truck any louder. I tow a lot of the time and do not want the drone.

ats ex manifld wld help also.

my combo 4inch into 5 inch stack, ats ex manifld,dd jammer trbo help to keep egt cool towing. the powerpup adds a good amnt of power and adds very little egt for the power added. even with dd2 injectors i tow on 90hp setting at cool egt

on the 2g rigs when ya get egt up there ya shift down and temps lower. with the 3g rigs after shifting down egt comes right back up. folks say cuz of the inefficient ex manifld. with the ats/jammer combo my egt gets so cool ya can make icecubes :)

i be happy w/ my combo :D

Egts are so easily raised and so hard to lower. How much $$ do you want to spend? The ATS manifold and a better flowing exhaust would be a good start. If you are going to be that deep into it you might as well upgrade the turbo, then consider some twins, everyone loves twins! Then make sure you port and polish all the appropriate parts, then get the head work done. All it takes is money, and lots of it. Or you can just adjust your Egt's with your right foot pedal pressure, it's all up to you, have fun.

The restriction on the 3rd gen trucks are at the turbo. The system flows pretty well all the way through, but the small opening on the turbo drives up the EGT's. But BEWARE. DC down sized the turbo outlet for a reason. It helps throttle response and turbo spool up. Put a larger turbo on is easy, but you are liable to build in a flat spot in the low RPM range, which is not advisable for towing. Piers has been reported to have found a happy medium with his turbo. Exhaust won't help if the restriction in the turbo is still there. Remember, it's all give and take. Everything you change or add will have an effect somewhere. Just know the anticipated results before you spend the $$$$. Sarge

My friends 04 pulling heavy with and Edge EZ will only get up around 1100 while pulling hills (small hills). Im getting up to 1500 with the same load just getting up to highway speeds. I can get her up to 1300 just accellerating w/o a trailer with the Edge on level 2.

Im going to buy a aFe7 and torque tube instead of a Taurus . 40 SS Semi-Auto.
