I have an 06 Mega Cab SRW. Having trouble with high EGTs when traveling 60 pulling rolling hills and 15000lbs loads. Higher speeds are better. It's an auto with 3. 73 gears using tow mode and sometime od off, doesn't seem to matter, I can reach 1350 often and easy. It has the edge with attitude and a k&n filter, but stock exhaust. I usually pull in level 1, but I've tried 2 and stock and it doesn't seem to help. Has 50000 miles on the truck. Is the cat causing problems or what should I look at doing first. [/B]

If you want to lower egt get a smarty JR. A friend of mine had the same problem. He tried my JR and soon had his own. On tow it adds 70hp and 140ftlbs of torque. EGT doesn't get any higher than 1200F. I have my '03 at the same HP level as that now and had a hard time hitting over 1100F with a gvw of 27,000lbs up some good hills. It was below freezing out though. No one passes me on hills towing either.

Those numbers don't sound bad at all. The 325 engines just run hotter and 1350 is within their range.

Depends under what conditions you saw 1350 degees also. With OD off and rpm's up thats pretty normal. If that was at 60 mph in OD then its getting high.

The Edge will get hotter than other programmers and not positive but don't think it boost fools so your temps will get a warm.

i agree get rid of the edge and get a smarty jr. also if you would like to have your truck last very long, trash can the k&n and get a psm kit and the new mopar improved filter

When my 04. 5 was new and stock, It would reach 1400 degrees if I wasnt careful. Nature of the beast is that the Common rail engines are hotter EGT wise.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I've got a buddy with an 03, pulling much heavier loads without the problems I'm having. He rarely gets to 1100. One difference is, he has is a CFM+ air horn and aftermarket air box, tube, filter etc. Don't know if that's makeing the difference or what?? I'll definately check into the Smarty jr. Do you think the air coming in is the main problem or is something else screwed up?

If you make a side-by-side comparison to the manifold and turbo between an '03/04 and the '04. 5 and later parts, you can see the parts have been beefed up to handle a lot more heat.

I went to a larger exhaust, modified my airbox for more air flow, lowered my temps.

No one has mentioned where the EGT sensor is located. My sensor is located in the exhaust manifold. If it was located in the TC downpipe elbow I would be seeing lower EGT's.

Is everyone in this post located in the same place?

the change to in cylinder egr started with the 04. 5 trucks the 03 to 04. 4 will run cooler, cleaner oil and better fuel mileage. it takes quiet a bit of work to get a 04. 5 to 07. 4 truck back to where it needs to be. this includes a cam change.
