Ok, I had this all typed out yesterday and lost it, so here goes again.

Previous to my diliema I could pull WOT for ever and only see 1250-1300 deg, mileage was between 18-21 emety and 14-16 towing.

Last memorial day I hook on to the 5ther and head out, only to see 1300+ and having to let off to keep it safe, so I check for boost leaks, found nothing clean the filter, no help, made a little ram air intake which helped a little but still not the problem. I got home and checked mileage-12mpg(still good)way down, my around town is down to about 17, power is still good, just too much temp.

I took it to the dealer, talked to the dealer(who I trust)with no help.

Talked to DD, talked to local guys, posted here, everyone had told me that is normal temps for an ETH, it is just the increase in ambient temps, which it got hot all winter too.

The one thing I think I have noticed is I have alittle more smoke than before, even at WOT, is it possible to have an injector drip or leak or just plain let out too much fuel? Is there any way to check an injector for that type of thing?

Sorry this got so long, any suggestions are appreiated.

Ya but,

Why were they not hot for 6 months then all the sudden HOT.

I am prepared at this point to buy the turbo, just so I feel comfortable towing, but what about the injectors? I am probably pi$$ing in the wind but there IS something different.

maybe your gauge is going south or maybe it wasn't reading right in the beginning---try another thermocouple and see what happens--I'd agree that your present temps seem more normal--do you use the overhead to calculate the MPG or are youdoing it by the old tried and true method--if you're using the overhead it could be that thing as it's not the most reliable----chris

Check your Map Sensor

You might trying cleaning your map senser, some guys report this helps with both EX Temp. and mileage.

Changed thermocouple , no change.

Replaced MAP senser as well as IAT senser no change.

Also had temp guage calibrated, was with in 25 deg at 1000.

also had boost guage calibrated, was in for all intense purposes.

Checked entire intercooler system with 30psi - no leakes for 30 minutes.

Disconnected wastegate completely, still no wo key.

I am going to try to grt it on a dyno this week and see if hp is up or down.

This should tell me if I am getting more fuel(+hp) or less air(-hp) both should mean increase in temp... . right?

What is ambient temp doing in your neck of the woods? Rule of thumb is 1* increase in ambient = 1. 4* EGT. So a 80* day would yield more EGT than a 50* day by around 50*. Intercooler efficiency goes down as ambient goes up too.

Your truck is almost identical to mine except I have DD3's

I could hit 1350 with the 3's and a stock turbo at 36-38 psi.

Now I am running a PDR40 and I have to really work it to hit 1250 with 29-30 psi of boost!

Kieth, I could tell a difference once the temps cooled off last fall, even on a day that showed lets say 25 degs on the over head, pulling a snowmobile trailer, if I stood on it I could still see 1300-1400 and climbing fast. Granted not as fast as in the heat of the summer but too fast for my liking.

It just gets too hot too fast I think.

DF, did you see 1350+ or is that your max, if that was my max I would be happy... . plus you have more fuel than me.

I had your exact same set up before I went to the Comp. My temps were always high if I was pulling anything over a 5% grade in hot temps. the new temps are in line with what I used to see.

Since last summer I have changed the turbo the Air Filter and went to the comp so I don't know what the new temps will be pulling this summer.

I have a solution for your EGT troubles;):)... . but i'm guessing you're looking for a simpler solution.

You need more air. Those EGTs don't sound out of the ordinary for an ETH.

Diesel Freak,

Are you running a comp along with the 3's? Heck, even with 4" exhaust and a 40, I can bury pyro! Of course, I'm runnin' like a bat out of heck though:D
