High EGT's

OK guys, need a little help. Ive got a buddy with an 05 cummins. He just had some 60 horse edge tips installed and now his egts are through the roof. His previous mods include intake(s and h?) edge juice, not hot unlock, and 5 in exhaust. He can easily hit in the high thirty's for boost, so im not thinking he has a boost leak somewhere. I hooked up a seperate pyro and was still getting the same readings. His egts seem normal during cruising speeds, but if you punch it at 60 he hits 1850 in 3 or 4 seconds. He talked with the shop that installed the tips and said they were going to try and check to make sure they didnt get bigger tips by accident. Any suggestions apprectiated.

Turn the Edge off and check again. The Edges run hot anyway and with bigger tips it just gets worse.

Sorry, forgot to say what levels we were on and so forth. It hit 1850 on level one, and could still hit 1500 pretty easy on stock. That stills seems too high to me, but I have definitely been wrong before!

Definitely, but you should see it stock also.



The 1500 degrees stock with bigger tips is about right, the Edge will just make it that much hotter.



How much boost is he seeing running those temps?

you can't run '03-04 tips in a '04. 5 and up engine. the spray angles are different and the bowls in the pistons match so unless you want to change pistons too, you can't swap the 2 injectors.

OK guys, sorry for the late response. Had a bad friday at work. But my buddy said the shop contacted edge and somehow came to the conclusion that they sent them 175 horse tips, so if thats the case that explains a lot. But to answer your question cerberusiam, he saw at least 40 lbs of boost before the egt alert went off and then of course blocked the whole screen. Ill be sure and update when he gets the tips switched out. Thanks for all of yalls responses,

What I was refering too is that because of the different spray angle would that cause abnormal egts? The '03 injectors have more holes as well.

Yes thats hot, check to make sure there the right tips, if they are then it's time for more turbo or water injection.
