need help dealer stumped

Installed AFE Stage 2 Intake on 2009 C&C with 6.7L

Hey guys. I have an 09 2500 with 11K on the clock. I am not towing and my EGT's hit 1350-1400 during a regen. Dodge is stumped but says there are no trouble codes and the truck is basically new. I know this is a problem with the 3rd gens, but other than deleting or water methonol injection, is there a fix? I'm in Cali, so deleting is out for me. Will a bigger turbo or aftermarket inter cooler make a difference? Also, is it possible, (or likely), the regen is causing a false read on the probe? At this rate, I don't feel safe using the truck to tow, simply because those kind of temps are a bit dangerous. Any feedback would be appreciated.

it's fine. it could be the temp probe, but those are not unheard of temps. it need to tow, get a heavy trailer and tow up el cajon pass. it'll be good for it.

I don't use the programmer's levels at all. Basically I just use it as a gauge. It was an X-Mass gift, so I had to install it. Wife would kill me if i didn't :) Thanks for the response.

What are your idle temps?

Does it show ambient temp first thing in the morning?

1350-1400 sounds normal for a regen, so I'm not sure I'd worry about it.

Hey John. Idle temps are fine, and they are usually around 400. I have let it idle for over an hour at one point, and the temps are consistent and the truck does not overheat. When the truck is not in an active regen, I average around 950 - 1200. This usually depends on speed and if I'm driving up a small incline. Once the regen starts, the temps shoot up to 1350-1400. I'm assuming the temp is not entirely accurate and it is being influenced by the hot regen cycle. I'm not entirely positive about this, but it seems like that is what is occurring.

That seems abnormal for cruising temps with or W/O regen, are you towing? 11K on the odometer seems quite low for a 2009, its not even broke in yet. With my 07, I run EFILive on "my" highest level 5 (there are many different custom tunes) and cruising at 70 MPH empty at @10K GVW is @ 600* and when in regen it gets up to 900*. As for towing, its not noticeable when in regen except for the way truck acts. I've never seen over 1350* that I can remember. And that's going over the Grapevine, as well as Cajon at 23K GCVW. What dealer did you take it to? I've found now that my truck is out of warranty they don't like to trouble shoot weird glitches. I even had a factory rep contact the dealer and I got nowhere.

Take out the sensor and put it in Boiling hot water and see what it reads, it should be close to 212*, before you do anything else. Also what location is the sensor at?

Those are normal temps for a stock truck with the EGR and DPF intact. I would see up too 1450F max when towing and in Regen before the truck had surgery!

I've never seen empty at 10K GVW more than 1000*(999* maybe) in regen cruising 70 on level roads . I'm not doubting any one else on their temps , but that is what I see on my EGT before the turbo at the Y of the exhaust, pic is before the EGT install. Truck in pic is @ 10K GVW empty.

Nice looking truck. I'm taking it to the dealer on Monday and I'm going to see if there are any PCM updates. I will also pull the probe and test it. Might even replace it. Thanks guys for all the help.

I have an EGT Probe placed between #5 & 6 on the manifold. I actually got a reply back from Chrysler stating the temps are normal with where the probe is placed. They recommended moving the probe between #3 & 4 because it will get less feedback from the regen. The high temps are only during the regen so this might fix the issue. Both my diesel mechanics at Dodge agree and think the reading is elevated from the regen high temps. When I get the truck back I am going to replace the probe, and move the tap back to see if there is a change. I’ll post my results when it’s all done.

The picture I posted, at the "Y", is where mine is located. Its just before the Turbo so you can see all 6 combining at the same location. It's also easy to get to if you remove the fender curtain and loosen the AC accumulator and drill it with a right angle drill. I would like to see about a setup where you can install an EGT probe at each cylinder. But that is a pipe dream. :-laf

The early year 6.7s ran hotter during regen,Cummins later capped temps during regen
