High HP turbo options

I am at a point where I have to make a large decision. Go to the HX-40 or a twin turbo setup. I have heard the intermediate shaft of the HX-40 may be to weak for the 5spd trucks. I have not heard much about twin turbo setups, but would be very interested in any pro's or con's about this subject.

There is not a problem with a HX-40 if you use it in it,s designed range. The few people that are breaking them just need a bigger turbo. The breakage is caused by trying to get 50+psi out of it. At that boost level your spinning that poor turbo so fast it wants to explode. If you go to a bigger turbo it doesn,t have to spin so fast to make the same amount of boost.

What turbo is best for you depends on the hp you are trying to make and how you use your truck.

John, Thanks for your reply, I really don't Know what horsepower Level I'm going to try to attain. I am taking this truck off the road in order to build a pulling truck with it. My motor man,Jerry McClain from Eureka MO, has told me these engines are making up to 1000 HP, in marine applications. Since I will be running this thing 350ft at a time, we are going for as mich HP as possible. I imagine the HX-40 will probably be passed up in favor of the twin turbo setup, unless the class I am stuck in, here in the Midwest, does not allow twin turbos.

If your going to be using it for a pulling truck then you don,t want a HX-40. Any thing over 425hp and you don,t want a HX-40. A HX-60 would make a good 650+hp turbo. You would be better off with twins at that hp level. You would get quicker spool up and reduce the load on each turbo.

Sport Bike... is the HX40 wastegated and what would be the max. psi that I should see ? Is there a way to set the psi's to 45 or is that also too high for the HX40 turbo ?

Yes it,s wastegated. You have a choice of housing sizes. 16cm and 18cm. 16 would be the best for the street. 45psi is here you should set the wastegate to open. At that kind of boost level you wont be over working the turbo. When your exh temps start getting up there then you will need more boost and at that point it,s time for a bigger turbo.

Thanks John. I am getting the 16cm housing on the HX40. Do you know anyone that is selling the ETC fuel pumps and at what price ?
