I'm having the dealer activate the idle controller feature when my new truck comes in, does anyone know of any other hidden features in the ECU I should have the dealer enable/disable while they are in the computer?

I just took delivery on a 6. 7 with the manual 6 speed and was not aware of this feature. Please explain and is it detailed in the owners manual?

Thanks,

Frank

On the 5. 9L w/Auto transmission and I am pretty sure the 6. 7L w/Auto the idle controller can be enabled which allows you to use the cruise control buttons to control your idle speed.

I believe there was a kit for the later model 5. 9Ls w/manual trannys that allowed the same thing, you'd have to check with your dealer.

Maybe the high-idle isn't offered on the 6. 7L's due to the exhaust brake ? I just took delivery of my 2007. 5 last Wednesday, but have not taken the time to read the owner's manual yet.

Hey Guys I have a 6. 7 w/ a 6spd. The high idle works great and even better with the exhaust brake on. I have posted some things in the past on what needs to be done if you have a 6spd but if you have a auto once the dealer activates the option then it should work. The manuals need to have wire 15 one the ecm grounded to tell the computer that it is parked. If anyone is interested in the technical info I would be more than glad to expand but I don't have time at the moment.

when you have a few minutes, please explain the tech. for invoking the high idle on the manual trans 2007. 5.

Thanks!

I have been looking into installing the "High Idle" feature on my truck and this is what I have determined after talking with Dave in the vehicle unfitting department at Dodge. I am installing this on a 07 3500 PU with a 6. 7L and 6 spd manual.

Dodge and Cummins uses a Clutch switch kit for this installation. Cummins # 4089851 is around $100 or from dodge it is over $300 so I won't even give you that part #. If you choose to install this kit this will disable the high idle when the clutch pedal is depressed or you can bypass this switch and ground the wire to the block. I opted to install this kit figuring that the dealer would not in the future try to use the installation against me in the future.

Installing on 5. 9 you need to ground wire #22 on the #2 ECU plug

Installing on 6. 7 you need to ground wire #15 on the #2 ECU Plug. There is already a wire in the plug you you will want to tap into it. I was told that the wire goes to the headlamp and dish area but we were unable to track it's final location in the cab.

This plug should be the one that is closest to the fire wall.

This wire is an 18ga DG/OR Be extra careful because #15 on plug #1 is VT/OR which is the electronic thottle control and can be easily confused. The best way to tell you have the correct wire is in the same row as wire #15 Wires # 11 - 14 are empty.

The only other thing you have to do after this is to have the dealer turn on the option in the computer

In addition to professor39's very clear msg.
The darkgreen / orange wire that needs to be grounded ( 6. 7L ) is already in the cab.

Look under the dash, driverside. There's a very large white plug behind the parking brake lever. I've found that wire hanging behind it. "Behind it" means between that white plug and the firewall. It's only maybe a couple inches long and has a black insulating cap on it. I've just grounded that wire under the dash, enabled the high idle with the StarScan, voilà...

The parking brake needs to be set but in our truck the exhaust brake will not eneable with the high idle.

Marco,

I actually notice a difference with the exhaust brake on and off with the high idle. Also in the literature you will notice that it is advertised to work with the exhaust brake to decrease warm up time. Now that being said, obviously this thing is computer controlled and there has been some scenarios where it has not turned it on right away but then it will a short bit later. You have to love computers.

I might have to rewire my ecm now. I didn't spend alot of time before because the Cummins install kit includes a new pin wire for the ecm plug so I just went ahead and swapped it out.

Anyone here know what to do, to get the highbeam and the fog lights to stay on together??? I have heard that you can with certain programmers on the 5. 9's. Just wondered if we could do this with the new 6. 7's...
