Does anyone know the last month / year that DC included the high-idle optional feature to be enabled in 5. 9 pickups (not a chassis cab)?

I spoke with the local service manager today about this, and he mentioned that he thought 2007 was the year the high-idle was discontinued because of a recall, but he wasn't certain.

Before I take the truck into the dealer, I was hoping someone here would know if my truck has the high-idle feature present to allow enabling at the dealer.

Truck is a 2007 (mfg date of 10/06) 5. 9, 6-speed G56 manual trans, with cruise.

Thanks!

Dan

Dan, My 12-06 build '07,5. 9,G56 has it and it works by putting the jumper wire on the ECM. I activate it with my cruise. First notch is about 1100rpm then I can ramp it up to 1600rpm with the accell button.

Motorhead, Bob, thanks a million for help. You wouldn't know which pin it is on the ECM that requires a path to ground? I've pulled both ECM connections in the past, so I know what's involved with doing that.

Thanks, Dan

Okay, I did some digging & found it's pin #22 on the rear ECM plug that goes to ground.

It will be interesting, after doing that, to see if my Smarty 06 can activate the high-idle without a trip to the dealer.

Once the smarty is loaded it is there ;)

Any tips on doing the grounding?? Size wire, where to ground to?? TIA

Looking at the engine ECM from the drivers side fender, I grounded to the top, right 6mm stud that holds the ECM to the side of the block. There is also another factory ground mounted to the same stud. As to wire size, all you need is 18-20 gauge wire. If you get the pin from Cummins, it will need to be lengthened. MAKE SURE that the pin goes ALL the way into the gang plug. I had a bit of a time with mine. Used a paper clip to push it in.

I believe that my '07 was pre-programed for the fast idle from the factory. I remember hooking it up BEFORE the Smarty and it worked.

None of the 3rd gens are shipped with the hi idle enabled from the factory. How ever the dealer may have enabled it before delivery.

Thought I'd post a couple photos from today's pin#22 install & ground path routing.

Hardest part, for me, was soldering a 4" extension wire to the Cummins 'pin' wire after I had already seated the pin into the ECM gang plug... clearly a result from working too fast & measuring too little. I should have caught that mistake before it happened.

The wire from Cummins, as shown, is too short for this purpose, and needs it's length doubled to properly reach the small ground lug on the firewall side of the rear ECM plug. I simply soldered on a 1/4" ring terminal to the ground-end of the yellow wire shown in the under-hood photo.

My truck was build in 10/06, has a G56 trans, and the high idle works perfect with the Smarty software using the cruise control in the cab. With this setup, depressing the clutch will not cancel the high-idle.

Man, I wish I knew about that wire kit when I grounded out the e-brake circuit on my 06 (makes the trans shift different). It'd saved me a lot of headache trying to get a ecm pin to fit in the connector.
