ATS Upgrade is Complete

For those of you who have put a solenoid on your throttle cable to control a makeshift high-idle, what did you use? I am not talking about the PTO type, just the solenoid with screw shaft to push the throttle arm forward to jump the idle (with an in-cab switch).

Can anyone give me details? Thanks

I just went to auto parts store and went down their book until they had one in stock that wasn't too expensive. I think it was called a "high-idle solenoid" and it was a vehicle with a carb and air conditioning. Works slick other than it doesn't have enough oompf to move the TPS arm on it's own. You need to tap the trottle enough to let the solenoid engage, and then it will hold.

The solenoid is mounted under the plastic cover on the TPS, so other than a wire running along the accelerator cable, it is completely hidden.

Does Harolds kit ramp the idle up and down with only input from the switch, or do you need to tap the accelerator as well?

The one I got from him, you screw the plunger in or out to to set the rpm's. It is either on or off and holds the rpm's you set it at, but it isn't strong enough to push the throttle open when you click it on. Have to use the pedal to to get the rpms up (think I have mine at 1400) then hit the switch and it will hold it...

I found a cool little cycle timer cheap that I want to use with this type of a high idler, but it has to idle up and down without any input from the pedal, only the on/off switch. I guess I had better keep looking.

Used an idle solinoid off a 78? nova carb, Rocker switch in the cab. Tap the throttle to raise the RPM's and turn it on. It will hold it there but not enough push to get it there. $7 at the local wreckers.
