did all the 24 valves come factory with the low temp high idle? i have the cheapo interior, power nothing, no overhead console with the temp. nothing, and the other day it was about 24 degrees here and after letting the truck cycle twice before starting it started as normal and never idled up to where most say 1000 rpms, mine stayed right at 8-850. is this something i should worry about?

Computer has to be flashed and then the feature enable for it to work. Hopefully they know how to do it the first time by now. It took me two trips and a year to get mine enabled. SNOKING

i had mine flashed for the high idle and love it be sure to call around to differant dealerships and find one that knows what they are doing also i called one they said $90 so then i called another, the one i bought the truck from, and they did it for $35 and did it right the first time!!

Your's might not need to be reflashed, it could just need to be turned on.

I had mine turned on shortly after I bought it. The dealer didn't know what I was talking about, and after about a half hour of arguing about it, they plugged in the DRB (to prove me wrong) and had it turned on in about 45 seconds.

I see in your sig that you have the Superchip tuner. Make sure you bring the truck back to stock BEFORE the dealer reflashes!!!! If you dont the tuner needs to be reprogramed by Superchips. Also I found out the hard way that the tuner turns off the high idle feature when used and doesnt put it back when you go back to stock.

i picked up a nice adjustable electronic one from usdiesel parts, then wired it up with a delay into my remote starting sequence

My buddy has a truck identical to mine except it's an 02 and his high idle still works with his superchips?

I had the dealer get mine working I don't think it required a reflash they just enabled somehow works great

I guess I was just unlucky when I changed power levels with the Superchip tuner. The 2 times I changed power levels it turned off the high idle. Then I had to go to the dealer and teach them how do enable it using info I found on this site.

Just ask the dealership to enable the high idle feature. If they don't know what your talking about then find one that does. And yes, even though your truck is plain all 24v's have the feature.

NOTE: ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED TO THE PROPER

SOFTWARE LEVEL, YOU MUST USE THE DRBIII® TO ENABLE THE 3 CYLINDER

IDLE FEATURE. TO DO SO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.

7. Connect the DRBIII® to the vehicle without connecting to MDS2 and follow

the menu structures it appears below.

8. MAIN MENU - 1998 - 2002 DIAGNOSTICS

9. 1998 - 2002 DIAGNOSTICS - ALL (EXCEPT BELOW)

10. SELECT SYSTEM - 1 ENGINE

11. CONTROLLER TYPE - 1 CUMMINS (ECM/ENGINE)

12. SELECT FUNCTION - 1 MISCELLANEOUS (Misc. is on second page)

13. 3. 3 CYLINDER IDLE - Follow the instructions

The DRBIII® will indicate whether the feature is enabled or disabled.

14. Push 1 to Enable, 2 to Disable.

15. You are instructed to cycle the ignition to complete the repair.

16. Press Page Back to Exit.

That should say it all...

need to flash?

No, you don't need the flash. All ETH's already have the software installed. The dealer just has to turn it on. Good luck on that one, though. It took me 6 trips to dealers before i finally got the chance to tell the tech where to look and then turn it on. It works fine now.

So what exactly did you tell him?

It is also really easy to hook up a solenoid & a switch to bump up the idle when ever you want it higher. Someone on the board sells a kit & I bought it from him, but I can't remember his name. It was a very easy install & didn't cost much.
