There is a very good chance I will buy another Ram by the end of December and possibly, the 96 I am going to look at this week. Without a doubt, whatever I get will be a 94-98 CC, 4X4 5spd; and, most likely, it will have 150K+ miles to meet my budget.

I have been thinking of items that need to be taken care of for my own piece of mind and came up with a fairly short list. I would replace all fluids the week I buy it including diffs, transmission, xfer case, coolant ect. And then a complete brake job.

Other items I believe need to be addressed are the dowel pin, 5th gear nut, balljoints and drag link.

Shrimpy suggested replacing the fuel hose that leaks.

Surely that’s not all…how about pump timing and injector cleaning?

Thanks, 243

Fuel related. Carry a spare fuel solenoid relay abnd know where it is. Under hood roughly in center back near dash.

Starter contacts before they take out your 300. 00 fuel shutdown solenoid!. Just had mine do that at 143K.

Have a stealer run the VIN number and check for TSB's and such.

Headlight switch, vacuum check valves, etc.

Make sure that the throttle cable recall was done! Check for a frayed end; the new design has an enclosed black plastic "guide/protector" at the end. If a "wide body" was piloting the truck, you may want to perform the "seat bomb" procedure with extra foam.

You might want to check the drive shafts where they go through to carrier bearing, Joe Pazdera had them seize together and takeout the carrier bearing.

Cleaning the injectors I don't find to be necessary, 370 injectors I do find necessary... LOL.

Timing would be a good help.

Let me know if I can help... Good Luck.

I am a "widebody" so maybe it will fit me right from the start :D

Michael~

It will be a pleasure hooking up with ya'll in something other than the galactic battle cruiser... I'm sure I'll need help.

I will see the truck in person tomorrow so I may have a little more info on it's condition.

150,000? its just broke in good. Prolly wont need much at all. Do the 5th gear nut when you have to unless you tow a lot out of town. Radio Shack has a solinoid for fuel shut down for $6. 00.

I think it's the only 12 volt 30 amp relay they have. No problem getting the right one at the store.

Any used 12 valve should be checked for pump mods. One quick check is to look at the AFC houseing. If it's all the way forward then something has been changed. Check to see if the fuel plate has been moved or replaced. Also look at the boost elbow. If it has a set screw then there have been some mods.

Joe is correct about the exhaust manifold. At the TDR show and shine in Columbus, Ind. this past summer, almost every 12 valve engine I looked at had some bending of the front manifold bolt.

Put a guage on the fuel line to check fuel pressure. Pinch the fuel return line to see if pressure rises and how fast. Most high mileage 12 valvers need at least a replacement fuel return valve.
