This may not be a great idea but i think i am going to buy a 2001 6sp H. O. dually that is in mint condition that has 300,000 on it. I know the owner very well and he has done a lot of preventive maintance on it (new head bolts, head gasket, intercooler boots etc). He said the shop that did the work on it said that the factory hash marks on the pistons looked like they had just been stamped on it. What do you guys think. I know fuel pumps could be an issue, but other than that? Also, I would be using this to pull trailers, but I would like to put some power to it but nothing extreme. Who is running high mileage trucks and putting out some H. P. ????

Thanks

I've got over 190,000 miles on my truck. I haven't been back on the dyno since my last round of parts changes but I ran a 12. 84 at 102 mph with a 4X4 Quad Cab. I'm guessing 525hp. A friend of mine has 298,000 miles on his 2wd quad cab and is turning 103 mph. Both of us still have no oil usuage and are still getting great mileage.

If you think it is a good deal, then it is a good deal! After all it is your money and your satisfaction that are on the line. Sounds like a good truck though ;)

blkdragon,

I purchased "Black Sheep Diesel" in June 2004 with 239,xxx mi. The 6 speed had just been replaced with a reman transmission and upgraded clutch. Today it has 477,xxx mi and still runs great and I deliver campers with it. The following work has been done since I purchased it.

1. Both front wheel bearing hubs, but at different times.

2. Upper control arm because ball joint was bad and no replacements yet.

3. Lift pump replaced with AirDog.

4. A/C compressor.

5. Belt tensioner.

6. 2 sets of front brake pads.

7. Injection pump at 400,000 mi.

8. Headlight switch.

9. Dimmer switch.

10. All 4 ball joints.

11. 2 sets of tires, last set had 165,xxx on them.

12. Replaced front shocks with Bilstiens.

13. 2 rearmost u-joints.

14. "Replaced" ecm with Catcher version.

15. "Replaced" injectors with RV275's.

There's probably another thing or two, just can't remember what.

Don't know how many horses I have but is plenty for pulling the biggest heaviest camper up any mountain.

No regrets at all!

Trent
