I ordered last week a wiring harness from Suncoast built by Sonnax.com a 68RFE wiring harness that boosts transmission line pressure by 15#s. I received it yesterday and installed it in 10 minutes. I took the truck out for a test drive and this thing really works. My shifts in all gears were much more solid and clean under hard acceleration. This thing is well worth the $40 bucks. :-laf

After a weekend trip to the BlueRidge towing I will say this little $40. 00 gizmo wired to my transmission has helped a bunch. My shifts under power are much more solid and the turbo/eBrake does a much better job locking up and holding me back. The transmission for sure shifts and locks up much better.

Does anyone know what the resistor value is on the one for the 68rfe? I googled "68rfe line pressure" and found a link to the Dodge forum and there is a DIY instruction on there for the smaller version of our trannys which just adds a resistor between the two wires that are on the two pins that are directly vertical of each other. On these smaller trannies, the increase is about 30 psi, where as ours are only about 15 psi. I'm cheap and would gladly spend only $3 on a resistor and do the job my self but the resistor will be different than the one they use.

Cumminz, do you think that the shifts changed after a little while in your truck? I was talking to the guys at NADP and the guy I spoke to said that they have tried these types of mods and they said that the computer learned that the pressure was high and within a week it adjusted the pressure down accordingly. This doesn't make sense to me becasue this unit fools the TCM into thinking that the pressure is lower than it is as far as I know, unless there is another sensor somewhere that would feed it some pressure reading to correct itself with.

Go to the link below for the part number.

I think it works fine - still -. You could check very easy. Drive it a while, remove it and drive it again.

The only time I question my decision to buy a C&C instead of a pickup is when once in awhile I read of a new gotahavit available for the MOPAR 68RFE. Nobody makes aftermarket goodies for the Aisin.

Bought one yesterday and put it on. Does make a noticable difference in the shifting firmness and I like it so far. Worth the money so far.

I've got the Edge Juice and it definetly makes a difference. I know that this chip doesn't deal with the transmission.

I got it through ammco on Stony Plain road for $86. They can get them from there wholesaler within the city in a few hours.

Guys,

DON'T USE THIS !

I talked to my transmission guy & he didn't like the results of the product.

Yes it did raise the pressure BUT it delayed the shifting into 5 & 6 was even more difficult.

Sonnax did receive the full report but still believes it to be OK.

Your choice ----:-{}

Elevated line pressures cause accelerated wear and tear on valve body components, and transmission seals. This will lead to premature valve body failures. The correct way to modify shifting characteristics is to upgrade the valve body itself.

This has been discussed. Banks also makes a similar unit called "Trans Command". I dont know if its available for the 68RFE.

I've owned too many Mopar vehicles over the years to count. Each and every one of them that had a Torqueflite 904 or 727 based transmission had a shift kit or shift improver kit added as soon as it came home from the dealer. This included later model over drive equipped 500s, 518s, 42, 44 and 46 RH and RE models. I have installed shift kits in some 47 and 48 REs as well. In all cases the object of the game with the kit was to increase line pressure, there by increasing the clamping forces of the internals and to delay the up shifts. It seems to me that if the Sonnax does this, that is what we want.

As far as the increased pressures casing more wear, this should be offset by less wear on the internals because the slippage is reduced. Ad to this that if the truck is being driven in a spirited fashion or towing a great deal, one must step up the maintenance. Oil and filters are less expensive than components. JMHO.

Guys,

The issue with the Sonnax was the delay in shifting caused by the installed unit.

Increased line pressure is better for the transmission but running the 4-5 & 5-6 shifts isn't worth the product.

If it works for you--- Great!
