high pitch whine/vacuum pump>YES

Hello

o. k. , this morning cleaned the vacuum hose from pump to firewall, and also hose from firewall to cruise control soleniod,

cruise control line had alot of oil, also took the large rubber hose of pump. saw the white ball, and alot of oil also, cleaned out, took my 5th wheel back to storage yard, and layed on the fuel,

no whining sound, so that is my problem, the vacuum pump, well i bidded and won a vacuum/ps pump on line, i'll just exchange the one way valve and see if that will cure the problem without replacing the whole pump.

thank you for reading... ... .....

about 2 months ago, i was headed to Modesto, noticed that

whenever i increased speed, their was also a whining sound,

didn't know what it could be at the time, about 2 days later looking over my engine compartment, noticed that vacuum line from pump to firewall was just hanging against firewall, not hooked into nothing, reinserted line into rubber connection,

high whining sound went away, [also for your info have the oil in system problem, replaced actuator twice under dash for front dash/defroster], well now the noise is almost ever present, did noticed that when i cleaned out the pump to firewall line, when a

orange base solvent to remove oil, the noise also faded away,

well let me tell you !! went to Burney and back this past week and the ever lovin whine is still their, does anybody know if the vacuum pump, is the cause or what, maybe i'm looking at the wrong source, but it's driving me nuts... ... ... help here please !!!

thanks

There was a recall for my 1996 2500 relative to the vacuum hoses and oil getting into them. I don't remember the number now but it should be available here on the TDR. I do remember that if the check valve installed didn't work correctly that oil would get into the system again. The recall added extra time for warranty on the system since it was an EPA problem, I think.

Take care of oil in the vacuum system ASAP. It will melt your climate control switches, actuators and cruise servo. Your whistle may be coming from one of these items. Recall on my '95s replaced all the hoses, added a check valve to keep the oil out and added a 7 year warranty to the vacuum system. Hope the recall applies to your rig as well but think it only applied to rigs with vacuum assist brakes.
