Just purchased an '93 FL70 with a 1st generation 5. 9. Since I got it I've heard an intermittent high pitched squeal when stepping on the go pedal. As soon as I let off it goes away. Would this be a turbo bearing? Also, the squeal hasn't come up lately, but now it seems to have less power. Also of note is an exhaust manifold crack in case that would explain the power loss. It has the WH1C (?) turbo. Please help. Thanks.

Anyone?

There is no lag between stepping on the accelerator and the squeal. Seems to happen immediately. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Geez, I don't know what to suggest. It is possible you've "coked" the bearing in the turbo but I've never heard what a "bad bearing" sounds like.

Are you able to isolate the sound by working the throttle from under the hood and searching for it that way?

The cracked manifold is gonna make problems for you sooner or later too.

You should get a used one if you can (preferrably not cracked of course) and use a dremel tool to slightly expand the manifold bolt holes to allow for expansion/contraction. This will help prevent further manifold cracking.

Other than that, sorry I can't be of more help. I'd be interested to hear some other ideas myself.

Regards, Bob
