We have 3 more trips to go with the camper this season and the puller has developed a high pitched whine that comes in at 20# boost, stays to 30# then goes away when boost drops back to 15#. I recently serviced the truck and spent a whole day trouble shooting to try and locate the source. The new NAPA belt was chirping and nothing would stop it so I just replaced it with the old one and stopped that noise. Checked all belt driven parts on the front for roughness or play. Everything was good. Kept taking the truck for test runs and finally noticed that the noise was boost related. I did not see any evidence that the blades were rubbing from bushing failure but I suppose that it don't take much to create a lot of noise. I have been told that my turbo is fixin to take a dump on me. Does this sound like the case?

Probably a boost leak, could be a hose, intercooler or gasket. There was a write up on here showin how to use shop air to test the intake system.

You could have a boost leak, may be at the intake horn. You have to build a "chuck", from 4" pvc/cap/plug, with a schrader valve, that you can insert into your intake tube on the compressor side of the turbo. Pull the intake tube off the air box, and hose clamp the chuck into the tube, then start applying air pressure, from an air compressor until you find the leak.

Well, didn't find any boost leaks but I did find that the compressor shaft has about 2mm of side play and I can now see a distinct mark where the blades are touching the houseing. Looks like its Turbo time. Now comes the shopping and decisions as to which one to buy. Going to upgrade to a 2 piece manifold and need a turbo that will enhance my upgrades.
