I bought a set of High-Tec retreads for a '48 CJ-2A a several years ago. They were the 31" mud-terrain radials. They were great, had zero problems, and I would have no issues with trying a set on my truck. I was impressed with the quality of re-treading.
BTW, I'll bet 95% of those road gators are from semi trucks, not cars and pickups.
The experience with my hi-tech retreads was overall positive.
The tires were very aggressive looking, rather noisy as one would expect and they lasted about as long as the warranty.
I think I invested about $330 into that set with the green stuff for extra traction.
In my environment (ice and snow), I did not fully 'realize' the traction from that green stuff.
I wonder if my mix was a bit light?
I am now about through with a set of goodrich tires that replaced those hi-techs.
The green monster is about to become a second tier vehicle in the household fleet. It is ready for another front end (which destroyed these expensive goodrich tires).
I picked up a $500 1995 jimmy that will take up the daily driver position for the rest of the summer.
Love my Dodge but running it is getting expensive in the repair department...
