600 cummins edge/juice question

A buddy of mine was asking me what was the highest mileage 3-Gen, I'd heard of. He has an '04 Chev. Duramax.

Apparently, there are a number of 300,000 mile Duramaxes floating around.

Since the Duramax and Cummins share a similar (HPCR) fuel injection system, he was wondering how the Cummins was holding up under heavy use.

The older Cummins have a great reputation for strength and long life. Highest mileage one that I have heard of, without a rebuild, was 1,250,000 miles. Quite a few older ones with over 1,000,000 miles. But, the older ones were a different engine. The Duramax has been on the road a bit longer than the 3-Gen's. 2001, I believe.

How many really high mileage trucks are out there and how do you use them (Hauling, etc. )?

Thanks. Joe F. (Buffalo)

I am servicing 3 high mileage 2003's right now ranging from 200,000 miles to

328,000 miles. One truck is stock and the other 2 have performance boxes on them. The stock truck has 200,000 on and no injector or pump problems or trans problems, it is a automatic a 48 RE. The other 2 are automatics also but are 47 RE's that have both been replaced or rebuilt. Both of these performanced enhanced trucks have had injector leakage problems, 1 started at 195,000 the other at 240,000. The one truck that started leaking at 240,000 never replaced and engine failed with melted piston, cylinder head, and turbo at 284,000. The other truck replaced injectors and still going at 328,000. Just replaced 1st liftpump last week and hpcr pump at 235000. The truck with 328,000 is a 2 wheel drive and now needs balljoints and a steering rack. The other 2 are 4 wheel drives and not done any balljoints yet.
