Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Why do LP's fail....??

I have a hissing sound like steam being let off coming from around the passenger side headlight area right after the truck is shut off. I stuck my hand and head down there to have a feel and listen and was unable to locate where this is coming from. I just bought the truck 3 weeks ago so I dont know if this is normal or not. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

Mine does the same thing if the air conditioner unit was running when I shut the truck off. There is also a thread from awhile back talking about when the air conditioner runs in certain settings. This could be what you are hearing.

So what you are saying is that this is normal and nothing to worry about. .

You can make your compressor last longer if you cool it down for a few seconds just before you shut off the engine. Turn the fan knob to "fan" rather than "a/c" as you idle. That reduces the pressure in the refrigerant line. It's especially important if you want to restart the a/c within an hour or so.

Remember the old room air conditioners that would be damaged if you turned them on within ten minutes of turning them off? They've been improved so the compressor won't be immediately damaged by doing so. The damage is slow and cumulative now, but the principle is still the same.

By the way, your Ram's A/C will still hiss even if you do this. no worries.

Changing over vent instead of A/C a few minutes before shut down for the night is also a good idea in order to dry the core and vents out. Putting it away wet encourages mold and mildew, before long your truck will smell like something died in it.
