Last night some schmuck hit my truck and blew the drivers side manual flip out tow mirror off. No door or paint damage ( a little ding in the hood where mirror bounced off) but the mirror and base are done with.

Good news -- a witness wrote down the plate number and local police drug the dude out of bed at midnight and now his insurance is picking up the repairs. I'm gonna take their $$ and do the work myself.

Can anyone tell me parts and labor to replace that mirror? I would like good info so their claims guy doesn't rip me off.

You're going to have to make a list and call the dealer. That's where the prices will be the highest. You can find those mirrors on Ebay, that's where I got mine.

I can't stop laughing

Holy cow! 290 big ones for the mirror and 120 more to install it. HA HA HA HA - hope the ins. pays out for that cuz then I can afford to do the power swap!!

Don't forget to deduct the cost of beer your buying for the witness from your profit margin for writing down the plate for you. Not many people give two squirts about helping someone else out, we need to encourage this sort of behavior :)

Witness is a gentleman

I tried to thank the guy but he didn't want to give his name or an address for me to send him something. He said at first he didn't care because it was just another big - needless - truck in town but after he saw the SAR lettering and knew it was a work truck and is his opinion, hitting a work truck is wrong :)

I'm not really trying to profit and if the guy had left a note I would try to repair it as inexpensively as i can. But he left, and now i want him nailed to the wall.

The end is near

Well, his insurance company took care of me to the tune of over 600 dollars. The hood dent can come out with paintless dent removal and I've found a replacement mirror for 90 and 3rd gen powers locally for 110 each. Even if I do have to have some paintwork done I'll soon have the mirrors power for very little out of pocket.

I guess this is Karma in action. I've bumped a few cars in my time and left a note every time. It all goes 'round.
