Hitch extension?

Hello everybody,
I wanted to get some opinions on what the best solution would be for my problem. I have a 28' Shockwave toy hauler that I pull with the truck in my signature. When I make a hard right hand turn the right side tail light contacts the nose cap of the trailer just enough to leave a layer of gel coat in a line across the top of tail light lens. The hitch extensions that I see have lower weight ratings than I need as most are rated for 4-6000 lbs. My trailer before I load it with toys and water/fuel etc. is 7200 dry so that won't work. All I need is like another 2 inches. :-laf Any ideas?

If the hitch is installed properly that should never happen. It sounds like the hitch was mounted too far forward of the axel. There may also be be some adjustment on the 5th wheel receiver to set the trailer a little further back.

Seems the design of the trailer is part of the problem. You need a good welding shop to extend you weight distribution head for you. SNOKNG

If you go the way of a longer ball mount I would reinforce the trucks hitch for the increased leverage placed on it

Thanks for the replies to my question. I think SNOKING might be pointing in the right direction. It is a factory tow package so I don't think the hitch is the problem and it only happens when turning hard right, not left. Maybe the fiberglass nose cap on the trailer is just not plumb. I guess I will just not cut the right hand turns so hard. I don't want to add a weak link by putting an extension in.

Try this, it's a bit expensive, or this (below) is what I have. But it tends to hit the pavement with steep driveways. I've thought of cutting off the bottom, I don't have a lifted truck. I bought it for the adjustability to connect to different trailer needs for transporting, it has a 10,000 lb. capacity with 1200 lb. tongue capacity.

Never towed with one, but I have a 3500 DRW, I forgot about the weight distribution hitches.

I had the misfortune of hooking to a TT that had a front cap that extended farther forward that any other TT I have hooked to before or since. I made a sharp turn and it broke the lens out of my tail light and put a $400 scratch in the cap. (Driver damage is billed to the driver when transporting). The ball on my WD hitch is 14.5 inches (13inches from the retaining pin) behind the tail lights. I have a dead weight hitch that has two mounting holes for the pin. One is 15.5 and the other is 18 inches. Perhaps there is a shank that will give you a couple of inches.
