hitch height?

i have a 03 4x4 srw 3500 and an older gooseneckstock trailer with an adjustable hitch. does any one know the minimum distance between the bed rails and the bottom of the trailer when adjusting the hitch? i have it set way high now and it won't get into the bed but the trailer runs uphill. any help will be appreciated.

The minimum is zero, but more is better. Less is very bad. I think I have 6" or 7" on my 5er, but would like to remove the spacers on my rear axles to gain another 1. 5".

what distance do most of you have between the bed and trailer?

Never owned one but I read in a trailer mag that 4" was the minimum. From the looks of some bed rails I would shot for 5+
