fifth wheel hitch brackets

We have a new 2012 3500 CC Laramie 4x4 and are getting a 20K Curt hitch installed Wednesday.

For you fifth wheel towers, I was wondering how tall above your bed floor is your hitch? The Curt can be adjusted from 13 to 17 inches so I thought if I had an approximate height from you it would give the installers a good starting point.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

the time to adjust it is when you back up to the trailer. adjust it for about 5" clearance between the bed and the trailer. harvey will chime in here and help. next level the trailer. find a flat parking lot and measure the front and back of trailer to ground. adjust the spring shackles to where the measurement is the same. get a maxbrake controller and bypass the stock one

I have the same truck and trailer as you. I installed the Reese Elite 25K hitch which uses an under bed mounting system. It is a very clean set up that leaves the floor clear when hitch is removed. The top of the fifth wheel plate is 16 1/4" above the box floor, measured from the bottom of the corrugation. This is about the best position for clearance and having the trailer close to level. My trailer was already at the highest spring hanger mounting position. There is no need for a Max Brake on the 2012 trucks. Just go into the EVIC screen and set the controller for EOH brakes. I have my level set on 6. 0 which has worked good. I am not familiar with a Curt hitch. I really like the Reese Elite plus the 25K rating leaves a nice safety margin. Enjoy the new truck, you will love it.
