Will a towing hitch for a 2nd Gen ('94-'02) fit my first Gen, '93? I can get one from a '99 and would like to know if it can fit, or what alterations I will need to do to make it safe and fuctional? Thank you all in advance for any information, Patrick.

Hitch Reply !

I believe that most hitches are the same above the rails that go in the truck bed, with the difference being in the plates that are used to mount the Hitch Rails to the frame. I suggest that you call or go by some place that installs hitches for their advice.

If your talking about the receiver hitch then be careful because they had problems with the OEM (1999 and maybe others) hitch cracking where it mounts to the frame. I also believe the frames are a different width between the 1st and 2nd generations.

Recall was issued on my 99. Took it in, they drilled the bottom edge of frame and attached two more brackets, from fram to hitch. If I recall correctly, they were mounted vertically and were further rearward than the area of reported cracking.

I have found cracks on OEM Dodge receiver hitches from '97 to '00 model trucks and two complete failures, your probably better off to find something else.
