have you ever peed in your pants ?

Are ther any decent CAD programs?

Well I am gonna bite the bullit as I just get so ticked off when I Need a lift for something (I miss my 4 post 12K# Rotary I used to have at work but it's TOO BIG) .

So I started lookin' 'round and have seen them before and checked out their construction first hand and I must say very impressive.

I am going to use it for ALOT of personal but I also "Hobby" quite a bit on the side if you will.

Which brings me to this ..... -----> http://www.backyardbuddy.com/ <----..... Lift has 9,000# capacity

I also wouldn't be going Full height with the dually either as I can frickin sit indian style under my oil pan as it is ... . so brakework , suspension work and under rail work would be the norm for the dually. (Lower the center of gravity the stronger when at capacity)

I am not concered about the automotive half of the Equaision as 9K# is overboard.

Whaddya think?

Tim, looking at their site the thing I didn't like is that it lifts by the tires rather than frame, makes it sort of useless for suspension or brake work. I didn't look at the entire site, frame lift may be an option.

Briar Hopper has one similar at his new shop, it seemed real nice, and built well, dunno manufacturer tho. However, IMO it's design takes up to much room, and makes workin' underneath it a little confining. A freind of mine (LSfarm) has the other type, with the swing-out arms, it takes up less room, and gives more access under it, again thats just IMO.

illflem, The Jcak units run between the ramps if you will on rollers ... . One major nice thing I liked about my old lift was just that feature. Yeah the down side is that it can be confining.

Hey rob I was also looking at a baseplate style twinpost much like LSfarm's those allow for a smaller lift area but however I did not see one (Again a Baseplate style) that had a 9k# cap

Baseplate style

Hi Tim, My hoist mounts to the floor with many 3/4" expansion bolts thru the baseplate on the columns. There is an overhead connecting structure that the cables and the hoses go through.

This overhead structure is also responsible for the much higher weight capacity compared to the twin post hoist with floor mounted interconnect plate. There are hoists like mine available with capacities over 12,000#.

I really like my hoist, and don't think I would want a ramp type hoist because of the limitations of space, and no easy way to do suspension and Brake work.

Briar's hoist is perfect for transmission work, and that is what he bought it for, but I think I still would bang my head on the ramps all the time. [too many years working under a regular hoist]

Do a Google.com search for hoist, or automotive hoist, I think you will find a lot to look at.

While the Backyard Bud can be portable between bays AND can be used with snowmobilles, Quads , things of that nature ALONG with vehicles. No banging doors into the posts. (Just bring the rams closer together and have the rear suspended via jack for things like snowmobille trackwork)

I called this company called eagle equipment. Do not know where the stuff is really made but it looks like good medium duty stuff- overkill for home use and adequate for service bay garage use. try the website at www.eagleequip.com Not affiliated in any way, I just keep getting thier catalogs- the stuff makes me drool.

Hey Pete I was also checking them out on the web as a matter of fact last week. Have you dealt with them at all? I have used eagle lifts and they are identical to a Rotary~Lift.

No don't have the money yet. But I do have a garage with a 12' ceiling (11'11"). I may have to cut a little sheetrock when I put it in. So all I know is from the cataloge.
