While adjusting the valves on my truck for the 1st time myself today I noticed something sitting next to the bottom of the intake valve spring on the #5 cyl. .

Appears to be a dust cover from an unused electrical plug? Not sure how long its been in there  I have had my valves adjusted twice in the past - just another reason that (when possible) vehicle maint is best done by the owner.

Interesting, I too wonder what that is. At least it didn't cause any issues. Being that you found it in #5, look along the firewall and wiring harness directly above the #5 cylinder. Maybe that part will explain itself.

Jason - I looked around briefly at the wiring harness after I found it and did not find a connector missing a cover?

The insulation on the firewall above and behind #5 and #6 is in pretty bad shape so before I started removing valve covers I ripped off all the loose pieces of insulation. I then blew the entire area out real well with compressed air - I did this to make sure nothing fell down into the engine with the covers off. . kinda ironic. . :-laf

Not sure what (if any) damage that piece of plastic could have caused?

Glad I did not find out...

Hmmmm?? Leaves must have been a shade tree mechanic? :-laf

And by the way I'm running an AFE not a K&N... I bet it came from my Fram oil filter :-laf

dumbass maybe, they had swapped the injection pump (thank god they put a 215 back in) put in toasted 160 injectors, the timing was set at 11-11. 5*, failed to notice many air leaks in the fuel and afc system and the of valve was completely empty, no spring no ball nothing, all in the quest to figure out a starting problem, gee wonder what it was there was so much to choose from :-laf
