Football Analysis By a Blonde...

Looks like the home we built with our own hands over 25 years ago is sold - barring the unforseen - and we will be spending lots of time sorting accumulated junk, trying to figure which to keep and which to toss... :(

Looking to relocate somewhere in the southern Oregon coastal area - somewhere from Brookings to as far north as Coos Bay - just depends on what surfaces as we do the real estate bit.

We sure won't miss the steadily increasing governmental and social stupidity running rampant here in California but will miss the association of our many friends and acquaintances.

My time here in group may be steeply limited or erratic as time and circumstances takes our focus elsewhere - but this too shall pass, and hopefully, we will be better for it...

Cheers...

Know how you feel. Just put my house that we built on the market.

Hate to move, but I can't find a job and don't want to forclose on it.

You'll like the S. O. COAST Gary. We spend alot of weekends there since it's only 80 mi. from here. Send us a pm when you land & we'll meet up for coffee or something.

Ramlovinvet lives in Brookings & Vaughn aka Merryman lives in Port Orford.

Good Luck & happy house hunting

Glenn

Just think about the place you will have for your family and friends to visit. A little premature but welcome to Oregon

I feel for you. I'm not a builder by trade, but I built the house we live in now. When jobs get tuff we sometimes think about what it would take to move. It's hard to even contemplate.

But I've heard wonderful things about Oregon, from folks who've lived there. You'll find something to fill the gap, no doubt. Best wishes to you!

The only consistent BAD thing I hear about Oregon(from my friends that live there) is all the *&^% California deserters moving in!!!

I can certainly sympathize with that viewpoint - here in the west sacramento valley area, we are overrun with bay area folks who sold out for big $$$, and then bought relatively cheap here, then commute - but they got theirs - now traffic on I-80 is HORRENDOUS - couldn't PAY me to just drive it every day, let alone WORK!

BUT, they drove up property values here to the point locals can't afford to buy or rent... At least when retired folks like my wife and I go up to wherever we end up, we're NOT competing for someone's job, don't care about school issues, since our kids are grown and no drain on the system. we're pretty tame, so no law enforcement issues - and we bring in $$$ to help the local economy...

We've vacationed up there for nearly 50 years now, have friends and former neighbors living there - so are looking forward to the change in scenery for our Golden Years...

I know how that goes. :rolleyes: We have the same problem here, with so many people moving in from the Quad Cities. Property values and the prop. taxes are going up with them. :-{} My parents taxes have almost doubled in the 7yrs since they bought there house. #@$%! Almost half goes to the worthless school district.

About 10 years ago, I was down in Jackson, Wyoming flying wildlife surveys for a friend that owned Westen Air Research (He was killed in 95 while returning from a grizzly survey in the park). One of the Refuge biologists that I flew in support of his elk research had recently gone thru a divorce and sold his house. He related that the prices of houses had gone up so drastically, that he would have to have several times his income to purchase the same house!!!

There is a hill/ridge that runs roughly from town towards the airport. When they subdivided the parcel and sold the house lots( 3/4 acres) they were $750,000!!!!Bob

Gary,

How are the taxes on unearned income in Oregon? Oregon hits retirees pretty hard don't they? My folks settled in Vancouver, WA partially for the tax situation.

Oregon certainly isn't one of the better places in regards to economics for retirees - but I guess we'll hafta pay that price for the scenery, climate and lower cost housing. We could go most anywhere - been across the USA several times, and saw many really neat states - but few offer the combination of climate and housing prices available in the Pacific Northwest, along with a great variety of mountains, ocean, forests and lakes - we can match a few at a time - but the whole combo is pretty hard to beat! ;)

About the late 1960s Oregon had a mythical group called the John Blaine society; its purpose was to discourage people moving to Oregon.

Amongst other things they distributed ungreeting cards with sayings such as;

In Oregon, people don't tan, they rust, or

Last year in Oregon, 250 people fell off their bicycles, and drowned!. or

Visit the Lovely state of Washington, with a picture showing a detour around Oregon through Idaho to get to Washington.

A few of them got together once and made up a sign that looked just like an official Oregon Highway sign, only it said;

We shoot eveythird California Land Developer---The second one just passed. , The Highway Dept. had it down the very next day, but it made all the news outlets.

But hey new neighbor Gary, you are welcome anyway!!

Well, I'm a long-time NRA member - if they start shooting at me, I can shoot back! ;) :D

Funny thing is, I'd bet the displaced Californians now outnumber the native Oregonians - pretty much like the Latinos in Californial outnumber the Caucasians... ;)

WELL, we're in the final stages of getting our long-time Vacaville Ca place closed - made 1 moving trip, leave this sunday morning for a second, and hopefully the last will be the following Friday.

AS it turns out, instead of buying a place along the Oregon coast as we had planned, ended up finding a great place and location in John Day in east-central Oregon - large 2000 sq ft 3 bdrm, 2 1/2 bath place with a large 2 car HEATED garage... :)

On my last legs here as far as Internet participation is concerned - my Netzero ISP doesn't have a local access for the new area - so will probably make a switch to DSL after we get settled into the new place...

Take care all - I'll be baaaaack!
