HO/48RE and snow plow package

Hello all,

I went to the dealer the other day, reviewed the build sheet on the truck they located in NY State for me and saw that the truck has 4. 10 gears. When I had the dealer start looking for the truck, I said that I wanted the 3. 73s and not the 4. 10s because I don't tow all that much and don't need them. When I pointed out the 4. 10 gears to the salesman, he responded by saying that you can't get the 3. 73s with the HO, 48RE and the snow plow prep package. Is this true? If it is true then fine, I guess I'll have to live with it, but I want to know for sure.

Your salesperson is wrong. You can definitely get the 3. 73s.

My truck is a 2500 reg cab HO/48re/3. 73's with the plow prep.



You did not specify in your post if you intend to plow snow or not. If you do then I suggest the 4. 10's. I had 4. 10's in my '03 So/47re and since taking delivery of my new HO/48re the only regret I have was ordering the 3. 73 gears. I plowed with both trucks and the 4. 10's are the better choice for commercial snowplowing. Don't get me wrong the 3. 73's do the job but you need to give it more throttle.

Yup. . been plowing for a few years and plan to do so with this truck. After thinking it over since I posted this topic, I agree that the 4. 10s will be easier on the truck when I'm plowing, so I'm not terribly disappointed. So the truck will rev a little higher on the highway, well it'll still be a great truck! The problem with salesman these days is that a lot of them have no idea what they are selling. If you're gonna sell something, you should know your product inside and out. Never let the consumer tell you something new. That's the way I look at it. Thanks for the replies.

Dealer must be wrong. I just got my truck last week. Has the HO Cummins, 48RE, 3. 73's, and the snow plow prep pkg. Didn't want the snow plow pkg, but it was already there. I'd be happy to scan the window sticker and send it to you if you'd like.
