Fellow Rammers with Hobbs meters, what's your average miles per hour of operation, since you installed your hobbs? I'm just curious. Do you use your hobbs for timing routine maintenance on your Cummins? Thanks ahead of time,
Gary

I dont know if this will be any help but-- In the fire service the rule of thumb for the hobbs meter on fire pumps is 1hr hobbs=45 miles on the odometer

Thanks Bombero. That sounds like a pretty good average, close to what I guess mine would be. Based on that figure, my mileage (67,223) computes to 1493. 84 hours or 62. 24 days of operation. Sure doesn't seem like much from that angle.

Sorry it took me so long to get over here. I'm still new to the board and I just got around to reading this forum (spent all my time to this point catching up on ALL the posts in the powertrain forum and the archives -- Wheeewww)

Anyway, I've been keeping track of hours on my truck since it was new. Up until this week I've been using the ET meter on the computer (runs when the key is on so it sould be "pretty" close).

Last weekend I installed an Isspro mini hourmeter in my dash. I was a little nervous, but it turned out easier than I thought and it looks OK. I used the lower right-hand corner of the instrument panel where the gear indicator would be located if I had an auto -- right under the fuel gauge in my 99. Right now it's hooked up directly to the battery until I run the meter up to total hours on the engine.

My records indicate I currently have 806 hours and just a little under 23,000 miles (28. 5 mph avg). That seems REALLY low to me, but most of my driving is in traffic (lots of stop lights). Plus I do a lot of off-roading in low range (2-6 mph) over granite trails here an Arizona. I think my results are about what Dodge expects too since their maintenance schedule is something like 6000 miles or 200 hours (30mph avg).

Hope this helps.

Kyle
