Am I figuring this right?

Check Out This TOW/Haul Rig on E-bay...

I need help from the members in Washington state. I am trying to find more information on exactly where this place is. Is it in/on/near Forks in western Washington state? We have found a few places near it but nothing specific. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

Mark

Very nice place to visit. Being from Nevada I hope you do not expect to find any hoh's there:D ?? If you visit ther during august or september it should be relitivly dry. While driving up the coast highway stop at Ruby beach and beach #3. Really nice places to do walks and tide pool watching.

No "legal" hoh's in this county, but who's keeping track?:p

Thanks everyone for the info. I rented a cabin in Forks for a few days to give us time to see as much of the park as possible. I also found my roadmap and the NPS site.

Gonzo, are those beaches off 101?

I've visited the Hoh twice. Both times it was sunny and warm. The second time I pulled up to the NPS gate booth and asked the young fellar who his congressman was and that I was going to write him a letter because I didn't drive 1500 miles to vist a rain forest and see sun shine. Told him that if I wanted sun shine I would have stayed home in WY. I did a U-turn at the booth and left. Had a beautiful trip around the pennisula. Geeze, there are so many people out there... yeesh. Good to be home.

He probably figured I was just another crazy. :D

Ol'TrailDog,

I know what you mean. I don't like crowds either.

I was stationed at Whidbey Island for 5 months while in the USMC and loved the area. It's time I went back and looked around more.

If only I could get those 6 magic numbers and not have to work anymore!!!!

Forgot to tell you Gonzo,

We are leaving this Saturday for the trip. We are trying to beat the school's summer break and the crowds that come with them.

Thanks again to everyone for your help!

Mark, Tracy, and Madison.

Try to go up Hurricane ridge in the Olympic range. It may not be open this early. If you make it to the town of Squim treat yourselves to a meal at the 3 Crabs resteraraunt. If time permits do the Port Townsend to Keystone ferry ride and stay a night at Deception pass state campground. Very nice place and some good trails and beach walks. Again if time permits drive highway 20 east to the north Cascade senic loup. It is a world class mountian drive lots of waterfalls and glacier views. Some of the trails will be open at lower elivations . Try the blue lake trail. It was closed last week, But if it is open!!. If you are going to be in the area after the first week of June you could spend a night here. Nothing formal but I could run a cord out for a hookup. I am going to be gone from the 26th of May to the 4th of June.

The beaches I had mentioned before are accessed off of highway 101.

Heading Yor Way

We will be in the the Thousand Trails Campground at LaConner from July 9th - 18th. Looking for things to do and see in the area. That North Cascades loop sounds like it would be great!

We also plan to take the ferry over to Port Townsend and then drive down to Bremerton, I was stationed there for a year when my ship was in the drydocks. I want to show my wife the Olympic Pennisula so we are going to make the loop and spend the night somewhere along the way.

Is the Boeing tour worth the time? I know I would be interested and I am sure it would bore the hell out of my wife:rolleyes:

Any NW Bombers functions going on at that time? Would like to meet some of the folks who have been so helpful here on the TDR over the years.

heading your way

Yes, the Boeing tour (if you're talking about the museum of flight) is definitely worth the time if you like airplanes. The "old red barn" part of the museum bores me. But the airplanes are pretty cool. I havent been down there for a long time. But there is/was a B17, a marine corsair from WWII, a couple of German WWII planes, and I thing they have a Japanese Zero there now as well. The other planes are awesome. The Boeing 707 that was Air Force One for Kennedy thru at least Nixon is there as well.

When you go to the Hoh, dont worry if its not raining. It will be plenty wet anyway. The forest is pretty dense and it never dries out (thats why its a rain forest)

Youll love it

(a real honest to goodness Seattle native, but youve never met a real one)

If you mean the 747 plant in Everett it is still available for tours. Get there early. You will just miss a NW Bombers truck and tractor pull in Lynden on the 3rd of July. You may want to check on the site to see if anyone has something planned.

THe museum of flight now has one of the Concrods at it also. I'd highly recommend Ruby Beach also - visited it for the first time last year and I'd have to say its the nicest I've seen out here. THe Campground there is nice - no hookups, but very quiet.

If your going over the North Casccade highway, a campground I'd recommend is the Lake Perrigin state park, right out of Winthrop. Good fishing, full hookups, and the sites are the biggest I've seen anywhere (most are pull through), probably 1/5th acre or so per site.

Recommend while you are in that neck o' da woods take the women folks over to Vancover Island to see the Bouchard Gardens. They'll love it - keep momma happy :)

Even though I'm too much cowboy to tear up over posies, I got to admit it was pretty neat.

The museum of flight is quite interesting and has a multitude of aircraft. It used to be that Puget Sound Energy, the local power company paid for a free day on the last Thursday of the month, if that works out.

Butchart Gardens and Victoria BC are well worth the trip. . see http://www.butchartgardens.com/ . .

The North Cascades Highway Loop as mentioned is well worth it too.

I've lived in S. Seattle my entire life and finally took the harbor tour about 8 or 9 years ago. . That was fun too.

If you can work it in, take a day or two trip on the ferry system through the San Juan Islands... .

Lots and lots of stuff to do here...

But. . you have to promise that when you go back home, to tell everyone it rained EVERY DAY !!... The area is getting really really crowded...

Just to clarify a few things, the Boeing tour and the Museum of Flight are two different things and are about 45 min. apart on a good day. I highly recommend the museum. Not quite the Smithsonian, but very very good. It is at Boeing field in Seattle and a quick visit to the web sight will give you directions. Don't stand in line for the Concord on a rainy day. Not worth the wait. It's cool if you can get in quick, but they have the entire flight deck glassed off so you really can't see anything. The plane used as Air Force One when JFK was in office is there also. I don't know about the free day from PSE at the Museum of Flight. It really is turning into a first class place and costs have gone up. It's worth calling them to find out though.

The Boeing tour is at Boeing's Everett factory at Pain Field. If you like big planes and even bigger buildings, this is the place. As mentioned earlier get there early as it is first come first served. They don't allow children under 10 (or so), but can do wheel chairs.

There is so much to do around here. If you need any more info, speak up.

I have to agree with Gerry, you need to tell everyone that it rained like you've never seen. Hope this helps

Dan

Great info on the Boeing tour and Museum... :D

We are planning a trip up to Victoria and the Burtchat Gardens, I was there with my family 25 years ago and it was really something special.

Would love to go up through the San Juans... just don't think were gonna have the time.

I won't let your secret out about the Pacific NorthWest. . ( although I do think it's to late!)

The year I spent there was the best time I had when I was in the service... it DID rain like hell but that didn't bother me much. I would have gone back when I got out if I hadn't met my bride here.

We are really looking forward to the trip and to visiting old haunts again.

I know that Seattle is quite the metropolis these days, what is the best way to navigate the traffic in and around the City??
