Advice on an older "pop- up" camper...

While firing off emails to Dexter, trying to find out how they want me to check their axle for "acceptable"play... . I decided to send one to HR about the only thing that has really bugged me about my 5th wheel. (But not really expecting much, being out of warranty!)

My 02 Alumascape has been almost perfect... except for some small items like... . the chrome center caps on the wheels that where showing rust within 2 years... .

So even though my trailer is almost three years old, Holiday Rambler Tech Michael just sent me an email noting that although my warranty is expired, my new center caps are on their way as a good will gesture!!!:D

Wow... HR got back to me in less than 2 days, DID NOT make me tow my trailer 50 miles out of my way just to confirm my complaint, and even though I'm out of warranty, are trying to keep a customer happy!!!

Other companies could take lessons!!!

Still have not heard back from Dexter...

(If it wasn't for another TDR Member (Thanks Ken!) sending me the pages out of his book on how to check the endplay on the neverlube bearings... my trailer would still be sitting on blocks in my driveway!!!!)

If I was you I would throw away those pretty chrome covers. Just paint the hubs a nice flat black about every time you service the brakes and your rig will look fine. With the chrome covers you can easily miss a bearing getting hot. When that happens the wheel will start throwing grease. With the caps on you wont see it until something real bad happens. IMHO. I see your point... . These Dexter "Neverlube" hubs have a huge 3"-4" rounded "baby moon" grease cap that actually dosen't look too bad, maybe if I had them chromed... . would look kinda sharp in a black hub offsetting a chrome wheel!

In reality, if the bearings start to go bad in these sealed units I think its going to get ugly real quick, probably the first thing I'll notice is my wheel rolling by..... kinda wish I had the old style I could repack & check every year!!!
