holset intercooler with banks changing color

i've spent the last two days towing a 22 foot boat (about 5 ton) from florida to connecticut. when i left florida, my intercooler was the stock silver color. about half way home, the cooler started to turn gold on the outside and lower intercooler tube. i took off the intake tube and the inside of the cooler looks ok. i have a banks powerpack and psychotty air. i was running about seventy mph at 2600 rpm with about 30 psi of boost. can anyone give me some advise on this? thanks.

I'll bet its just the hot compressed air coming out of the turbo that turned your intercooler piping a different color. If you were in a hot climate and had lots of boost, the compressed air from the turbo can be in the 200/220º temperature range before it gets to the intercooler.


2 members here, drawson & illfem used an infared thermometer to check intercooler inlet temps after a run. Their readings were 210º & 200º.
