Holset Turbo help needed

My father has a 1990 D350. His turbo has the smaller housing on the impeller side that he got from Banks years ago. The turbo is a Holset TYPE H1C Assembly number 3526739. Banks no longer is carrying rebuild kits for it. Does anyone know where he can get the repair cartridge? What he needs is the kit that requires him to remove the end caps and replace center section. His truck is down until this can be fixed.

High Tech Turbo and Gillette Diesel service both sell turbo rebuild kits. I tried and failed to rebuild a H1C, so I am leaving that to the pros from now on.



What exactly is going on? I think the Banks kit goes on the exhaust side; impellar is on the intake side.

Thanks for the info. My dad lives out of state and since it's not my truck (I have a 2nd gen) I don't know exactly what the deal is. He says it just needs to be rebuilt. You're right, it makes more sense that the smaller housing would be on the exhaust side so that it makes boost sooner. It may be that I heard him wrong on the phone.
