Like many out there, I definitely want to protect my IP. I've got a FP gauge and even carry a spare LP. I had Geno's relocation kit on my last 02, but not on my current 02. I definitely want to move my LP on this truck's frame too.

Here's the thing, I'm going to be away from home for work for about a month and believe I'll have a hard time having packages sent to me. I'm considering building my own relocation kit. I have a spare LP bracket from an 01 and I think I can make it work down on my frame.

I suppose what I'm getting at is are the fittings I need readily available at a big truck parts supplier(for example)? Are the LP electrical plug ends something I could find? I really don't want to start splicing wires. I realize there will be a bit of legwork in gathering these parts. I read some older posts by some folks who "built" there own kits, but no one mentioned where they were able to find their fittings.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian, I have done my own relocation on two separate trucks. Not too tough to do. On the first truck I used my original lift pump, in which case I cut the end of the connector off, patched in wiring to extend it and plugged it in at the pump. That pump lasted fine for about 70k miles by the way, until I got some bad fuel.

On my current truck I bought a Holley Black which was pretty affordable and should be better/last longer than the original. I crimped on spade connectors to this pump, and under the hood cut off the original plug and ran these wires to a relay, then ran fairly heavy gauge wiring from the secondary of the relay to the pump. I tapped right off the battery for power. Holley Black pump Holley 12-815-1 - Holley Black Electric Fuel Pumps - Overview - SummitRacing.com

As for plumbing it I bought -6AN size (basically 3/8" diameter) fuel hose and cut out a section of the hard line in front of the tank, mounting the pump on the inside of the frame rail. The pump threads are 3/8" pipe thread, so I got pipe thread to -6AN adapters to screw into the pump, then push-lok -6AN fittings to connect the hoses to the pump:

-6AN hose fitting PN FBM1222 here AN PLUMBING. COM Earls performance products, Hose ends Hose,Adapters, fittings

Fuel line- I picked some up locally and a hose & fitting place but I think either the blue or black Push Lok is good, says it's for gas, fuel, lube oils, water, etc. AN PLUMBING. COM Earls performance products, Hose ends Hose,Adapters, fittings

Hope this helps. . .

Thanks for the info Vaughn. My main concern is finding my fittings locally. There are a couple of big rig parts houses here(I'm on the road with work right now-Clovis,NM), hopefully they'll have what I need.

Did you do anything with the hose from the filter housing to the IP? Did you save any money over just buying a kit?

Hopefully I'll get to this project in the next day or so.

Thanks again, Ian

Ian I think I saved some but not a lot compared to the stock relocation kit but I installed a larger pump.

I was unable to find some fittings locally, in an area of about 200,000 population.

I still have the stock hose from the filter to the injection pump but eventually I'll switch it out. I have good pressure now though so haven't done that yet. For that project you need a Weber bowl adaper fitting to screw into the pump then the -6AN fitting screws onto that. Weber fitting PN 991944 AN PLUMBING. Sounds like I just need to arrange to have a relocation kit sent to me. If you couldn't find everything in your area, I seriously doubt I can find them in this little town I'm working in.
this was a longshot, I know, to try to avoid shipping issues.
Thanks again, Ian

Just an update, I was able to find all the fittings locally and built a relocation kit. Ended up saving $20 or so and the hassle of having something shipped to me while on the road. So, if anyone is near the Clovis, NM area, R&S Hydraulics can set you up.
Ian,

If there is a hydraulic shop in the area check to see if they have the fittings you need, most carry the push lock fittings and adapters.
