I have seen a lot of threads on building up your own set of twins... .

I would like to take on the challenge real soon. Is there a resource anywhere that I could use? I would want to have "towing twins" Planned on using my factory turbo as the smaller of the duo. Heard that is being done. Any help is greatly appreciated and any sources on bigger turbos out there to be had. Used is an option if I could find one. Thanks and hope I can get the info.

PSSST, my wife doesn't need to know about this ok. :D

You want an HT3B turbo from HTT Turbo in Utah. They sell them on Ebay sometimes. If you get one from them you'll get a new turbo, not a reman. You want a 26 cm exhaust housing. If you are keeping the jectors listed in your sig, you can probably go with a 24 cm housing on the 3B. I have a 26 cm housing, but I have Mach 5 jectors in mine.

You'll also need an external wastegate. This is not mandatory, but it will give you better control to keep from overspooling the 35. Mine is an Extreme Gate for use with motorcycles. It is a 42mm gate.

You can build your hot pipe yourself, but I suggest you contact Tim at TRE Performance Diesel (PM me for contact info) and get one from him. He made mine and it is great. It clears my transmission heat exchanger and the frame, and the AC lines... .

The cold pipe will be made from 3" exhaust pipe, or your choice of material. This is a customer thing and varies, depending on if you want to keep your second battery, and your air filter setup. Do NOT get aluminized. You don't want that stuff flaking of into the intake.

Are there any other options out there for the larger turbo? I found a few of the HT3B's but want to get as many options as I can before I start paying for things. Thanks again.....

There are lots of other options, but the HT3B is the most economical one I have seen so far. You could use a B1 or B2, I think, but be prepared for the a price tag.

The reason the HT3B is so cheap is because they are a stock turbo for many larger Cummins engines, and possibly other brands of engine, meaning there are LOTS of them out there, and the mass production to support that brought the price down significantly from the price of, for instance, your HX35. The B1s and B2s are going to be more expensive because there aren't that many out there.

Are the HT3B's from PDR any different from the ones rolling out of HTT?

PDR makes a ready to go setup already... are you looking for a challenge or economy? It may be a lot easier to just buy the kit, but of course, I've never done it before.

Has anyone here used the PDR towing twin kit? Did it go together well? I'm thinking the pdr-35/14 and ht3b would work well at my altitude of 4k feet. I'd like to go with the 40... but I don't think it'll work!

The HT3B that I am looking at is one of the ones that HTT is putting out. It's a new one but is stock/unmodified. I know that a modified one is better but they are a lot more expensive and I am looking for decent performance gains on a budget. I don't race my truck, but want to keep it a bit cooler when towing and in the mountains.

If you are staying with your current injector size, you may want to go with the stock 12cm housing on the HX35 and a 24cm housing on the HT3B. This will give you better spooling on the bottom end. I have 14 and 26, with Mach 5's and I still see a little lag on the bottom, but need to have the larger housing on thr 35 to give me the top end, and the larger on the 3B to keep from overspooling it. I can drive with very little or no smoke if the thought hits me, or there are police around, but I have lag.

Is there a source where I can find this info? i. e. turbine housing sizes, best ways to put it together, companies to get certain parts from. This site is great but it seems like there is a lot more out there to know and learn before you take on a project like this.

I am starting to wonder if it would just be better to go to a hybrid single of some sorts. I want ot use the power I have now and be able to tow with the truck. Got all amped about building my own set of twins, partially because I like to say I did it myself. Now a big single would be more like settling.
