Good idea, how many people would want to commit B&E if there is no doubt the home owners are armed?

Sounds like it would be a safe community to live in. The criminals will go elsewhere to find easier prey.

The highest crime occurs in areas that have the strictest gun laws.

Kennesaw, GA required a firearm

Kennesaw, GA required a firearm at one time. I don't know if the requirement is still in effect however. Kennesaw is a small community about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta. Here's a couple of links I found. An interesting by-product of the required gun ownership was lower crime statistics.

Along with that they're encouraged to have ammunition and appropriate training.

I think it's a good idea to encourage gun ownership and "appropriate training" should go along with it. When I go to the range and see the way some people use their guns I cringe... makes me wonder if training should be mandatory.
