Our DirecTv setup is giving us issues, installer says it is an AC power issue in the house (open ground or polarity reversed I believe he mentioned). I checked most all outlets, each comes up very similar Neutral > Hot = 122. 1, Ground > Hot = 122. 7. I checked all of the outlets on the (livingroom) circuit involved; neutral, ground and hot are all where they should be. I also checked using an outlet tester and every outlet tests Okay... ? Is it normal for a slightly different voltage when measured between ground and neutral?

Since its a different wire going back to the feed it makes perfect sense that it could be different. i'm not an electrician but I don't think 6/10ths of a volt would cause any problems. If the polarity is not reveresed (and even if it is)I think he maybe blowing smoke up your rear. Can you take the box to somebody else's house and check it there?

I'll ask around at work, see if anyone is a Dtv user, my meighbors are dishnetwork or cable users. On and off, we have had Directv since 99, this is the first time our setup has involved a SWM system which allocates both receivers signal using a single RG6 cable from a powered splitter back to the dish... Once the 2nd reciever is powered on the, the functionality of the DVR receiver goes to pot

It sounds like your other receiver is stealing the signal from the DVR.
Not sure what DTV requires in WY but a DVR needs 2 dedicated lines going to it for both tuners to work, ie record & watch, record 2 programs etc... Sounds like you need to run a dedicated line to each receiver minimum or best would be 2 lines to the DVR and one to the other receiver. Not sure what a SWM system is but if you have a multiswitch mounted somewhere between the dish and receivers just run lines to the appropriate receiver off the output side of the switch. Or call DTV and have a tech come out again and do it.

Exactly Ken. It is very apparent when the 2nd rcvr is turned on. Supposedly the SWM sys does all of that (and supposedly more than just a DVR and 1 normal rcvr, up to 5 according to my tech) with a single line coming from the LNB. crazy! I would prefer not to run a bunch more lines, but functionality is #1. They are supposed to call tomorrow and schedule another service apointment.
