WoooooHooo... ... . I made my own K&N Aircharger today. Man do I love the sound of that turbo. Went to the local auto parts dealer in town and ordered the same element from K&N that they use in their aircharger, cost me a whole $74. Made me a template with some cardboard, then traced it to some 16ga steel we had kickin around at work and proceeded to make me an aircharger. I also had to buy a piece of 4" steel exhaust, 4. 5 inches long..... ouch $4 lol:) folded her all up then pop-riveted it together, a little black spray paint and voila... . $250 aircharger for $80. I dont have a digital camera but I will take some pictures with my 35mm and get them transfered to cd then I will post them. Don't think the wife is going to like the noise on that side of the truck but shes only been in it 4 times since I bought it so I think I can just say "It's always made that noise":D :D . Boy the powerstrokes at work aren't going to like the sound of this:mad:

You are on a good track with your thinking, I too have a homemade charge setup and just today I tried it out, we have had alot of fog and cold weather so it has been wired shut for several months, I made a run hard and got EGT's up to 1350 and then opened up the system and with another hard run I could only hit 1150 now keep in mind that the ambient temp was only 37* at the time and that is coolbut this gives me more promise to the system and I need to finish the project . I am in the process of building a scoop for the inlet now and I will have control from the cab as to how much I open the charg air up, I also have a gauge in the cab that reads from 30* to 150* and the ultimate desired temp is 90* at the airhorn and that is what I will try to maintain . I know that in the hotter months that it will run wide open all the time unless I have rain and I will then close the butterfly valve and suck underhood air.

Sidenote , at 37* ambient tem with no charge air the underhood preheated air was reading 52* at the airhorn, this tells me alot.

here is a look at my setup... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... cheers, Kevin

An even less expensive way is to use stove pipe, it comes in different gauge, pop some end caps on, cut a hole in the middle for a boot to go to the fender, spray paint any color, and wa-la.

Has anyone ever actually did a before and after dyno with the K&N aircharger or any aircharger for that matter?

The manufactures claim a 10-20 hp increase, is this true?

Since I put mine in it seems like it has much quicker response, but that could just be my imagination

Kevin, the RMTDR chapter is having a dyno day on April 5th. It only cots $20. I am curious what your truck is putting down, more than mine I know that much;) .
